Least Favorite SSX October 13, 2007 The only things I like about this game is that you can play as Mario, choose skiing or snowboarding, and the good grapics. I was very disappointed with this game though. Playing as Mario, Peach, and Luigi is no differnt than playing as anyone else. The skiing tricks aren't really thart good. The characters looked too small on the screen. The mountains aren't very detailed, and the modes are bad. There's no free mode and all you can do is pretty much race. This game gets very boring. I would not reccomend buying this game.
Great complement to the series June 9, 2007 I own SSX Tricky, SSX 3, and SSX On Tour. While I've never seen the first one, judging from these 3 games I think EA Sports has provided a really nice range here.
SOUNDTRACK: I personally love On Tour's soundtrack, but I'm more Indy groove than mainstream stuff. (Some of SSX3's soundtrack is so irritating I have to mute it.)
GRAPHICS: I love On Tour's introductory and navigational graphics, all funked out and hand-drawn with great character and lots of fun, very much in keeping with the soundtrack and the play of the game. And while SSX3 has great scenery, SSX On Tour is definitely no slouch. I also like the presence and interactivity of other snowboarders and skiers as well as the silly comments that take place randomly.
GAME PLAY: The Mario theme (and I really don't like Mario anything) is very subtle, so unless you choose to play a mario character, it's not a big deal. Character identity has changed, and while I'm a loyal Moby player, there are so many new things in this game it balances out nicely. (And hey, Kaori could have learned English, guys, and she needed a little backbone!)
Somebody mentioned there's no freeride. SSX On Tour not only has freeride, it has an entire section devoted to freeride and anything else non-tour you can think of. It's actually called, "Freeride." Yeah.
The concept of boundaries is much more realistic in this game uniquely. When you hit a boundary in the other games, it blinks you back on course. In On Tour, it's much more natural: you just hit a boundary, and can explore it (you might find an unexpected punch in those boundaries...); it just feels like there's more continuity in the layout, and more independence in where you want to go. I REALLY like that.
EA Sports went outside the box on this one, and I'm glad they did.
Worst SSX Title March 12, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The SSX franchise is my most beloved. But this addition to the franchise is by far the least impressive. The graphics are a major step backwards from SSX 3 which was beautiful. You simply cannot create a character that doesn't look like a grungy teenager from 1992. The inability to play our favorite characters in tour mode is unfortunate. But the single most unpleasant aspect of this game and the reason why I dislike it with such passion is that in multiplayer mode if one racer gets too far ahead of another, the player who is behind automatically gets brought forward, catching him up to the player in the lead. This entirely invalidates the very essence of multiplayer.
Not as good as TRICKY December 17, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
SSX Tricky is better than SSX on Tour. If you want a game that the whole family will have fun playing pick SSX Tricky over SSX on Tour.
The Best Game November 26, 2006 My daughter loves this game, it's one of her favorites. The game improves the player's skill level, and helps them get to a higher play level.
