Product Description GREAT GAME, LOTS OF GAMES AND LOTS OF FUN.GREAT REPLAY VALUE. A COLLECTION OF ACTIVISION CLASSIC GAMES FOR THE ATARI 2600 (SONY PLAYSTATION CD-ROM VIDEO GAME VERSION)
Editorial Review For those of you with fond memories of the Atari 2600--the granddaddy of home video game systems--this retro collection of first-rate titles from Activision is a must-have. This comprehensive disc features a whopping 30 games, including hits such as Pitfall, one of the best games ever made for the Atari 2600, and lesser-known (with good reason) titles such as Cosmic Commuter. As an added bonus, you can listen to audio CDs during gameplay. We recommend music from the early 1980s for the full "turn back the clock" effect. But if your video gaming experience doesn't date back to the early Reagan era, you should probably take a pass on A Collection of Activision Classic Games for the Atari 2600. By today's standards, the Atari 2600 is about as technologically dated as you can get, and the rudimentary gameplay and primitive graphics and sounds of its games aren't likely to win over any new fans. --Joe Hon Pros: - Comprehensive collection of first-rate Atari 2600 games
- Ability to listen to audio CDs while playing games
Cons: - Little to no appeal outside of older fans of video games

A good collection September 26, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
For anyone who can remember what REALLY started the video game market, this is a collection of those pioneering games that were so fun and addictive. Activision has provided 30 games originally for the Atari VCS (2600) and has kept them fairly well preserved.
There were a few noticeable problems however. Games like Kaboom! which use the analog paddle control are impossible. The lightning-fast paddle controller is ill-represented by the PS D-pad. Also, the sounds seem to be from the lower-pitched PAL chips, rather than the higher NTSC. Similarly, some of the graphics seem to vary a bit from the originals. Of course, being that I still own a VCS, I can point out these differences.
Overall, this isn't a bad buy. For anyone who doesn't have an Atari VCS around but still would love to play their old favorites, this is going to be just right for you. For those in the other category, it may be better to stick with your VCS; nothing feels quite the same as the originals.
It Brings Me Great Memories May 7, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There have been a lot of Activision classics I used to play 20 years ago, someone missed the cut in this CD, but most I have played before and it renewed my interest to try again and playing it the way I used to play it on the Atari 20 years ago.I may have been a smart kid, but I always used B difficulty. Now I use the "A" level to advance my knowledge and believe me, my scores have been pretty good the way I remember it. If anyone still has a PS1, they should get this CD, especially if they have one with the LCD screen for travel purposes.
not bad April 14, 2002 i really like the atari 2600 version of these games but when i tried to order this it was not available. i'm guessing i would like the game because it takes me back to a simpiler time(1980's)
Classic April 12, 2002 That's the only way to put it. This is a classic and if had an Atari and you think you would like to go back to the basics for a change. You must have this. It's also good for those who get motion sickness from these new highly 3 dimensional games that these new systems all make now.
Just Meh. March 21, 2002 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What you're really getting here for your buck is Pitfall and, maybe, Keystone. What I want to know is: Did anyone feel even a little nostalgic to play anything else on this disc? Barnstorming? Boxing?! C'mon, for the price, you think they throw in at least Berzerk or Yar's Revenge. Buy it if you just have to play River Raid one more time, but if you're just in the mood for some retro game goodness, get Midway's Arcade Greatest Hits vol. 2 instead. Who needs Chopper Command when you have Spy Hunter, Joust 2 and Moon Patrol?
