Amazon.com Product Description Take a ride across the USA for a chance to compete in the Big Race, but watch out for Officer Unfriendly on your tail. Up to six balls can be in play at once in this pinball simulator; balls slide and spin just like in the real thing, and high-speed-motion blur simulates the faster-than-the-human-eye effect. There are four flippers with which to take shots, and the Tour the Table option shows game shots in close-up. There is full control, too, over the physical parameters of the game, including table slope and age, flipper strength, outlane size, slingshot power, and sensitivity.

Most excellent pinball game, even on XP, if you know how. June 10, 2005 Big Race USA is a well crafted 3D delight. The ray-traced graphics are true-to-life, colorful and stunning. The physics are superb, endowing the steel balls with realistic movement and mass. The tunes are catchy, sound-effects authentic and the voices and spoken lines are hilarious. At high power settings, a flipper will make the ball smack the glass hard, which is very satisfying. It's like having a real, spanking new, well-tuned pinball machine in your room.
The operator's menu lets you create a custom difficulty level where you can choose the number of balls, set how long the ball-saver remains active and tune every other conceivable parameter of game play and scoring. The table-setup option lets you adjust table slope, machine condition and flipper power. You can make it respond like a factory-fresh dream or like a beat-up bar machine if you want. Extras let you examine the 3D game surface in detail with the ability to zoom in to high-resolution close-ups.
I've had this CD for years but I recently tried it on Windows XP with my new Athlon 64 4000+ screamer and was disappointed to find the flipper response was slow and even intermittent. It turns out that XP is not entirely compatible with the versions of Windows that Big Race USA was made for, rendering it unplayable. Fortunately I found a solution on the Web. Run it in Windows 2000 compatibility mode! When I did, all the flipper sluggishness disappeared and the game was fun again.
I play this on my new system in full screen mode, at the highest video resolution with all the bells and whistles turned on. It runs flawlessly with minimal latency. This game is a beauty to behold, still plays well on modern hardware and I strongly recommend you get yourself a copy.
PINBALL MISSED THE TARGET April 7, 2003 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Found this game to be a let down. Would like to have the fullscreen available to view while playing. Found flipper action slow. Best feature the multiball play where you have more than 3 balls simultaneously running on a play. Graphics are pretty however I found some areas of the board alittle difficult to focus on while playing (deadzones vs. livezones). Good bargain price but not an item to keep. Try EXTREME PINBALL instead.

As close to real pinball as it's going to get October 11, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've always loved pinball machines, but have always been disappointed in video pinball games that I have bought (both for the Playstation and the PC). They just don't capture the feel of a real pinball machine--sometimes they don't even try to be even remotely realistic. I saw this game for the low price and decided to give it a try. It is great! It's as close to real pinball as it gets and a real bargain for the price. However, if you don't like playing pinball machines at the arcade, you should probably pass on this game. All aspects of the game are great--the graphics, the surround sound, the realism and feel, and the actual gameplay. As with a pinball machine, if you just flip the flippers trying to hit anything in site, you're probably not going to do very well. There are specific targets to hit and specific times and sequences that you need to hit them in. Get familiar with the rules of the game, look for the lit targets, learn to nudge the play area, and you'll do much much better. Multiball is the best, but I did experience a little slowdown. I highly recommend this game to anybody who likes pinball.
Great Game for a Great Price! July 8, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really like how the flippers work as fast as you push the buttons. Very real and life like game. You can change different settings on it as well to your liking. Such as kept up table or worn which changes the difficulty level. My favorite part of the game is the Police Frenzy and lots of balls come at you at once and you try to keep them going. Very good game if you love pinball. Cons if your not a big pinball fanatic that are on game councels then I wouldn't recomend this game for you. Some might find it a bit boring. The only other downside is the digital screen I too would also like to see the whole table when playing.
