Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Babyz are the next generation of virtual life! You can play with and take care of a group of cute, mischievous Babyz who live in a virtual house in your computer. Watch as they learn to talk, walk and develop their own personalities. Take your Babyz to different rooms and play different activities with them. And with voice recognition, you can even talk to your Babyz!

Amazon.com Review
Make way for Babyz! Adopt an adorable virtual kid in this amazing, playful simulation of child rearing from the company that brought you Catz and Dogz. Each Babyz (that's singular, too) is darling and unique--choose one of fifteen to adopt or, if none of them is just right, check out their Web site with plenty more to pick from, changing every day.

You can have up to three in one house, and then the fun begins. Name your Babyz, clothe them, give them toys, feed them, watch them play in the backyard, or just give them a tickle when they look bored. The software runs both like a normally selected program and as a screensaver--if you're not careful, the Babyz will take over your screen when you're not looking!

The graphics are playful and imaginative, the costumes are cute, and the house itself is full of stuff for the Babyz to explore. Short, simple words will start yammering back at you before long, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without a babbling Babyz in your computer. --Rob Lightner

4 out of 5 stars How to run this game if you have Windows XP   February 2, 2006
2 out of 4 found this review helpful

After hours of trying to get this game to work on Windows XP I found this website instructions. Very frustrating bit now it works with no sound which is all this game will do. check out:
http://www.dmwright.com/babyz/xp/
How to Run Babyz in Windows XP (inc Win 2000 and later)

Quite easy really, but unfortunately you will have to play the game with the sounds switched off, if you turn the sounds back-on the game will often work for a few seconds - but eventually it will freeze/crash. :(

The three possible way to accomplish this are listed below - you only need to follow one.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First download this registry file (babyz_sounds_off_xp.reg).

Then put in your CD and install Babyz normally, once the game is fully installed (and usually after a reboot) you can then run the registry file.
After the message telling you the information was successfully entered into your register, you can then start Babyz.

The game will run faster than normal, but it will run. :)

Note: If the .reg file opens instead of downloading, try right-clicking and selecting,
'Save Target As...', 'Save Link As...', or whatever phrase your web browser uses...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alternatively if you don't want to use the .reg file you can enter the values yourself using RegEdit:

Close the Babyz game if it is still running...
Start RegEdit [Start Button / Run / type regedit into the box and click OK]
Navigate to this: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PF.Magic\Babyz\1.00.00]

Find theses two values: "Play Area Sounds" = "01" & "Play Sound Effects" = "01" and change them both to 00, and that's it. :)
...quit RegEdit and start Babyz.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another option if you don't want to mess with the registry at all is to place a pre-adopted baby into your "C:\Program Files\Mindscape\Babyz\Adopted Babyz" folder, this will allow you to start the Babyz game, you must then go into the 'General Options Menu' and un-check 'Babyz Sounds On'.

If you need a .baby file you can use this (betty.baby).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Windows 95, 98 & ME users can also turn the sound off with the click of a registry file...

Download this registry file to disk (babyz_sounds_off_9x.reg).

...it wont alter the game in any way and you're free to turn the sounds back on in the game's options menu.

I got this game ages ago and I still love it! I've seen reviews saying it doesn't work on newer computers, however if you look it up online there are plently of clear instructions on how to make it work. I have it on my sister's Windows 2000 computer and 2 Windows XP computers and it works perfectly!

When you get this game, you need to enter a code which is on the disk (if not you can use some codes they provide or find some online) and then you get to feed/play/dress them up. It's a great game!

5 out of 5 stars Love the game.   November 29, 2005

I love this game. I have been playing sense 1999 and yes I know that is insane. When you play the game on XP you have to turn off the sound or it will not work. Kinda sucks but all and all it is still a great game.[...] she has several things that can spice up the game. and then she also has several links to great sites where you can download clothes and babyz and even some online communities that have several friendly people [...]Just a great game.

If you like taking care of kids, this is a great game for you! In this game you get to take care of virtual Babyz. It does work on XP, however you need to first get a Babyz into your Adopted Babyz folder (you can download some online) and then when you open the game, go into the options menu and turn the sound off. It'll work perfectly after that! Also, the codes that the game comes with work perfectly, you can't use them on XP though because you need to put a different Babyz into your Adopted babyz folder, therefore you do not enter a code. I really like playing this game, you can teach your Babyz words and watch them grow up and learn to stand!
