I-Ninja ... Hiya ! D=< January 13, 2008 This game is pretty fun except for the fact that alot of the levels are very challenging to where you have to repeat them over and over in order to pass it. But graphics pretty good, game play is pretty good, and the Ninja is kinda funny. I think it's a worthy PS2 game purchase.
Probably best for a rental, if you're not really into it October 29, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game features a hyperactive ninja with 3d action ala super mario 64, though there are some elements similar to sonic, such as his ability to run really fast, given the right setting. There are also nifty bonus stages that feature him rolling down slides to collect coins. The music is synthesized techno, somewhat memorable. If you like hyper ninjas and diverse levels, then get this game.
Great Family Fun Platformer September 4, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I-Ninja is a cute little platformer that is clearly similar to games such as Ratchet & Clank and Gex. You're a little cartoony ninja, running around odd worlds with your sword and climbing chain.
There are numerous levels here, and as you go you build up your movies, weapons arsenal, and more. The game is very easy to pick up and get going with. You hit traditional buttons to jump and double jump, attack, and move. You can run up walls, use your chain to swing across gapes, and so on. Anybody who has played any Zelda / Ratchet / other platformers will have the basics of this game down in about 2 seconds.
That's not to say it's easy. Many of the levels can be quite challenging. You know WHAT you have to do - but you have to try over and over again to actually do it properly. This can on one hand be quite thrilling when you do make it to the end and savor your victory. On the other hand if you're a gamer who doesn't have hours and hours to devote to one level - and perhaps has a parent standing over your shoulder with a stopwatch ready to pull the plug on you - this can get really frustrating, really quickly.
There are checkpoints in the middle of missions, which helps a lot with the above-said replaying. At least you don't have to do the entire thing all over again from scratch.
The graphics are quite nice - they did a nice job with the textures and color combinations. Yes, a few things are still blocky, but this is a PS2. I really do feel they did a good job with the programming here.
All except for ... the camera!! The camera in this game drives me completely insane! There are so many times that I want to look in a certain direction and have to do a number of operations before I can get the camera to go there. You would think after all this time that game companies would make an easy to use camera system. I just don't get why i-Ninja has such a problem with this.
Still, you can live with it, and the game really is quite fun. Give it a try, and enjoy a game that can be enjoyable without swearing and mature situations!
incredible April 17, 2007 This has everything you want in an adventure game. I was really surprised how many reviews said how short it was because theres so much you can do in it. Its basically the ninja version of mario64. Its a must play. Its a shame there probably wont be a sequal.
An average platformer let down by some poor design choices March 9, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The game starts out fun, true enough. Unfortunately, it's a low budget title, and so some corners were cut in the game design.
Basically, creating 3D worlds takes a lot of time, so for this game the number of maps is limited compared to (say) a Jak or Ratchet game. To try to compensate for this the game was padded out by making you have to do the same maps two or three times--once as a normal level, then again collecting red coins or as a speed run.
I hoped I'd be able to complete the game ignoring the speed runs, but it turned out not to be possible, so I gave up before getting to the final level. Maybe it's just me, but I do not find speed runs enjoyable.
The other major flaw with the game is that the combat doesn't work right. Some moves are so hard to do right that it's not worth trying, because they stall you for a moment when you get it wrong, allowing you to get stabbed. In addition, as you go up in level you get sharper swords, while the enemies stay the same, so the combat gets significantly easier.
