Fun for fans, but really challenging February 5, 2008
Battlestar galactica is fun, albeit extremely difficult. The phrase "practise makes perfect" applies here like no other. The learning curve is quite steep, but once you master the Viper's (surprisingly) deep controls, you should do well.
Pros: -Beautiful scenery, immersive environments -Ships are highly detailed and true to the original TV series -Fills the childhood urge to fly a Viper -Unlockable content (including original Ralph McQuarrie concept sketches) is fantastic for BSG fans
Cons: -Extremely steep learning curve will turn away most "casual" gamers -Distance between save points is discouragingly long. There's no worse feeling than finally getting close to the end of a mission and then having to start all over due to a dumb mistake. -Not incredibly innovative as a standalone game- the major draw here is for BSG fans.
Overall, if you're a BSG fan, you should enjoy this game as long as you don't expect to clear every mission on the first try. If you're not a BSG fan and looking for a good space flight sim, you may want to look elsewhere.
A very average space combat simulator January 17, 2008 If you played "Wing Commander" in the 90's you'll have a pretty good idea of the quality of this game. Play control is very generic. Sound is okay. Story is thin. I enjoyed it because I like the BSG series and enjoy blowing away a few "Toasters." My biggest complaint about this game is how dark everything is. And, no, it's not an issue with the contrast on my TV. The darkness and fast game play make it difficult to enjoy the Cylon ships, the Vipers and Battlestars. Would I buy it again? Yea. Sure. It was fun. Would I buy it for someone else? No.
Not exactly?!? September 24, 2007 Potentially fun flight game, controls not as easy as could be,vague at times with objectives and direction.
Great Graphics, Story line and game play - BUT NOT EASY August 31, 2007 This game has been lots of fun for me. I have loved the Viper space fighter since the '70s (yes, I am probably really old compared to some of you gamers out there) and its been great to get to pilot one. The graphics are fantastic and I like that most of the feel of the game and the story line is drawn from the original series but that it gives several nods and has drawn many good elements from the new one as well. I love both shows... and this is a great blend of the two. Some of the levels are difficult to the point of frustration however. Back in the old PC days I had quickly mastered every level of X-Wing and its sequels, and there are many, many similarities to this game, but still find some of the levels to be more aggravating then fun. Especially the one where you have to perfectly follow the Cylon formation for what feels like hours.... Unless you are very good at these kinds of games I highly recommend taking advantage of the "Starbuck and Apollo as wingmen" option, the codes to do so are readily available on any of the many PS2 and game-player websites, such as Gamespot. The first mission is also one of the very, very hard ones and without their help many people might give up on this game before even getting out of the gate. You really don't have to let them do everything for you, but its good to know they are there!
Not as hard as others would have you believe. January 26, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
went through the dreaded rings 3rd try yeesh. ok enough. the game has top notch graphics good voice acting and pretty decent combat controlls its just a shame you cannot configure your controller to your liking but eh... anyway i STRONGLY recommend using a gameshark or codebreaker to hack the game get the viper MKII or better and its then a fair fight with the 1st viper its a little harder then most people are used to (see x-wing vs tie fighter) still Lots of extras all ship models rendered in full 3d glory close to 400 unlockables and most of them are worth it like the Movie Viewer and the galleries oh and the Outtaks rocked!
