alien review February 4, 2008 Loads of 2d fun!! With gadgets to use and lots of punches, any fans of old school games should pick pick this up now. One of the best 2d games I've enjoyed in years! I hope people will continue to make games like this in years to come. I had a blast playing this game.
Alien Hominid March 1, 2007 Still looking for awexome on your PS2 or GCN? Let me recommend Alien Hominid.
Originally released as a flash game on Newgrounds [...]
It's a cartoony, humor-oriented, gory, classic-styled, side-scrolling shooter, kind of what you'd get if you mixed Contra and Earthworm Jim.
Your character is a little alien dude who crash lands on Earth, and then the FBI comes after him. Because, y'know, it's the FBI's job to kill aliens. After that, you have the opportunity to face off with Soviet soldiers and Area 51 personnel!
Rest assured, the console version has a lot more added to it than the prototype flash version on the Newgrounds site, which is far more challenging than the console edition.
You've probably heard me say before, but the console version features:
-More power-ups: 5 more than the flash prototype version, 7 in all; Fire, Ice, Plasma, Needle, and Spread shots to name but the 5 I can off hand; and let's not forget grenades, and being able to blow up buildings and other background structures to reveal hidden secrets!
-More special moves: Right and left dodge rolling, picking up and throwing enemies, burrowing under the ground and killing enemies by dragging them down into the ground with you.
-Use of vehicles: Cars, trucks, tanks, and maybe some more others, for transport, offense, and batter ramming!
-Different and improved level design, music, and cut scenes.
These, of course, are not all of the improvements, just those I can name off the top of my head at this ridiculously late hour of the night.
Again, the prototype flash version of the game on the Newgrounds site DOES NOT EQUAL the console version of the game available for both the PS2 and GCN.
Fast-paced, easy-to-pick, difficult-to-master.
And remember, FAT KIDS give you POWER-UPs. Because they're awexome.
Everything Metal Slug should be. October 11, 2006 This game is for Metal Slug and Contra fans. Basically, it takes everything great about those games, and adds an Itchy and Scratchy type cartoon violence art style to it.
Really, its better in a lot of ways than Metal Slug and Contra, its longer, just as hard, but it has a lot more bosses, and its pretty funny too. Also, you can do a bunch of funny things instead of just shooting people. And it has a few great Sinistar-ish spaceship levels, so I guess if you like the old school (I sure do), this game is like a dream come true.
In fact, I really only have two complaints:
1. The grenades don't seem to do any more damage than the shots from your gun.
2. Most of the power ups for your guns (except for the machine gun and the gas gun) don't really do anything other than change the look of whats going on (i.e. how the enemies die and how the gunfire looks).
But to be honest, I didn't notice either until my second time through the game, I was too busy having tons of crazy, fast, old-school-action-game fun.
Alien Hominid is a real treat. Highly recommended.
Demented fun, hardly like anything else you'll play August 31, 2006 Originally a smash hit flash game on the internet, Alien Hominid garnered such a following that it made it's way onto consoles; and those of us who never played it before can be glad that it did. A 2-D run and gun shooter (think old school Contra or Metal Slug, but with a more twisted sense of humor), you play as a homicidal, yellow alien dodging men in black and other hazards in an effort to find your crashed space ship and get back home. The first thing you'll notice is the game's eye bleeding art style, and for being on the PS2, there's no slowdown and the graphics don't ever get choppy. The next thing you'll notice is that Alien Hominid is incredibly hard: there are hordes of enemies attacking from all sides, and the boss battles aren't easy either, yet somehow the game is still a blast to play. The control is easy to pick up and the game sounds fantastic, rounding out the package for this surprisingly incredible and fun game that harkens back to the days of old school gaming with a serious charm. All in all, if you dig classic side scrolling shooters like Contra and Metal Slug, pick up Alien Hominid; it's cheap, twisted, and you'll likely not find many other games that have this much attitude to spare.
Hilarous, gory, game. AWSOME! August 20, 2006 In most alien games, the aliens look hideous but not this little guy. I have rented this game 3 times, but I want to buy it! My brother had this game at a sleepover party and it was a hit! You play as a little alien with no name that shoots, slices, and bites the heads off of FBI agents. I love the level where you can drop FBI's into a wood chipper with your UFO:-) If don't own this game, BUY IT!
