My 8 year old son and I have been addicted to this for over a week! Lego video games are the best.The challenge of beating each level is fun but the real fun is getting to Super Villian,beating the level and then going back to really clean up !! This way you can take your time and get all the goodies :) Thats what makes Lego games so much fun.Well worth the money.

I got Lego Batman as a packaged title with my brand-new PS2, and I also bought Resident Evil 4 (One of the best games ever!) and Cold Winter (A really cool FPS). Of the three titles I currently own, I would have to say Lego Batman is my least favorite. There was a lot of hype built around this game, and why wouldn't there be? In the past pretty much every Batman game ever made was complete crap and this game certainly one-ups its numerous awful predecessors while at the same time being a game of family-friendly content. There are numerous playable characters, tons of goodies to find and unlock, lots of villains to face and play as, the visuals look good on PS2, there are thirty missions, lots of things to build from Legos, lots of costumes, lots of things to collect, and there are lots of vehicles to drive. But despite the numerous cool things I described about this game, it has a laundry-list of problems which prevent it from amounting to the great Batman title it should have been due to the questionable design choices Traveller's Tales made.
WHAT THE GAME IS: It was supposed to be a great Batman game, what people got instead was an average title that is focused heavily and almost entirely on casual gamers by being an insultingly simplistic beat 'em up and platformer. Batman and Robin have a problem, all of their worst enemies have formed an alliance and are trying to take over Gotham City. The duo most capture these numerous villains and beat up several thugs along the way to keep Gotham crime-free. The story is super-lame, and poorly told.
GRAPHICS: This game looks pretty good on PS2. All of the characters have been nicely designed in Lego form. The environmental designs are also a plus. I did however notice that the game is a bit blurry and sometimes sloppy graphically. The visuals are good, but they could have looked better despite the aging technology of the PS2.
MUSIC: The music is actually pretty good, which surprised me. It's always around and it knows how to make itself even better during the key moments. Props to the person who composed the music.
SOUND: The sound quality is pretty good, though I found it annoying that most of the time the sounds were enemies being beaten up. The sound effects are good overall. There is also no voice-work, all the characters do is make grunting noises.
GAMEPLAY: Let's just get the worst parts of the game out of the way. Despite the fact this game has a nice combat engine, it gets dull when you continuously beat up legions of enemies by pressing the same button non-stop for minutes on end. The beat 'em up gameplay at times gave me a headache because I had to do it over and over again, and I almost never get headaches even if I play a crappy game. The vehicle controls are similar to the likes of the excellent Xbox title Advent Rising, relying exclusively on the analog sticks. But at least Advent Rising had a good camera so you could get used to the controls. Lego Batman has a camera that is panned out too far and at a stupid angle making the driving levels (five of them in total) an exercise in futility and being a nightmare to play (especially when trying to control the boat). I also received more than a few cheap deaths during the platforming due to the camera. There were also times in which I couldn't figure out where to go and I would be wandering for minutes on end looking for a way out. The boss battles and puzzles are a joke and are poorly balanced. Boss battles range to mind-numbingly simplistic to somewhat hard. The puzzles are stupid (Sorry, but after solving Resident Evil 4's brilliantly designed puzzles, all other puzzle-solving challenges look like crap) and most the time are too easy. The unlockable costumes also were a bit annoying. For example: Robin's magnet boots allow him to climb up specially marked areas to solve certain puzzles. Climbing can take quite some time to do and I got bored waiting for him to get across something on more than one occasion. Batman's bomb suit was nice, but it got in the way when building something out of Legos because the circle button is used for both building Legos and planting bombs, so every two seconds he'd whip out a bomb while I tried to build something. I hated his gliding suit, it usually provided more problems than help and it pissed me off on numerous occasions. After all these complaints I have about the game how did I give it a 7? Two words: Multiplayer and collectibles. Those are the main saving graces of the game. Playing this game with a friend is a blast and collecting and unlocking all those special features is worth it. As I mentioned before this game has a nice combat engine and there's a ton of stuff to smash. Building and finding things is a nice feature as well.
OVERALL: I suggest you rent before you buy. This adventure is worth trekking through once, but once you finish it there's no reason to ever pick it up again. This is great for kids who are just starting out as gamers, but it won't appeal to more hardened gamers.
THE GOOD: Lots of stuff to collect and unlock, playable characters and villains, 30 missions, good music, lots of stuff to break, lots of things to build from Legos, good graphics, and a good combat engine.
THE BAD: Repetitive beat 'em up gameplay, graphics are somewhat blurry, unlockable suits cause more trouble than help, stupid camera, awful vehicle missions, and this isn't the great Batman game you were expecting.

Traveler's Tales early track record with videogames were, basically, hit and miss. However, with the Lego games, Traveler's Tales have found their perfect balance. I'll admit, though, this is the first Lego game I've ever played or purchased. If you're not familiar with the Lego games, however, it's gameplay is this..The player fights enemies, platforms, builds things in Lego fashion, and tries to figure out puzzles given to them in order to progress through the game. Each character has their own ability. Batman and Robin can change their outfits to give themselves different abilities. The story isn't based off a movie or even a comic-book plot. This is an original tale of Traveler's Tales which is that all the enemies of Arkham Asylum have escaped and it is up to the Dynamic Duo to stop them. I'm here to tell you, though, the cutscenes get pretty hilarious. Robin is a complete goofball in this game who provides a good percentages of the laughs. I loved it.
However, I do have some complaints. I didn't like how the game left you to figure out things on your own as to what to do and where to go. Given this was my first Lego game, I expected- at least- a short explanation as to what to do & whatnot to progress through the game. Sad to say, it took a couple of hours before I truly understood the gist of the game to go on by myself. Another thing that annoyed me was the bad AI with your computer-controlled character, at times. There are puzzles that require cooperation between Batman and Robin. You'll be trying to get your partner to stand on a platform that will be raised when you pull a switch or whatever and he continually jumps off before you can do so. So, I ended up racing to do things so he could make it to where he needed to go. Thankfully, though, it doesn't happen too too often in the game and that is a blessing.
To be honest, I bought the game clearly on the Batman license alone and I'm very glad I did.
Overall, Lego Batman:The Videogame is a great game that fans of all ages will enjoy. It's not a hard game, but it has plenty enough goodies to make you play through more than once and that's all you need.

My kids loved the Lego Star Wars games because they were EASY but it had many levels and kept them entertain.
We are also big Indy fans we have all 3 movies watch them many time and were excited about the Lego Indy game. But they ended up hating the game. They had a hard time figuring out what they needed to do to move on to the next level. They'd ask me to figure it out but jumping in the middle of the game I couldn't either and had to get on online many times to find the answers on how to pass to the next level. Something I NEVER had to do with Lego Star Wars.
I wasn't going to buy the Lego Batman after the kids had so many problems with Indy but my youngest is a huge Batman fan and I was hoping they made it easy again like Star Wars. So we bought the game and again just like Indy, my son can't figure out what to do in some levels!! I find myself online looking for answer Again. I wish they'd keep the Lego games simple like the star wars one for the kids!!
I'm sure the adults Love the game and the challenge of spending hours figuring out what you need to do to move on to the next level but my 6 and 7 year old toss Batman to the side and go back to playing Lego Star Wars.

I was a great fan of the lego starwars games. They were super fun and these days its surprisingly hard to find good games that two can play together. Lego games have a great combination of humor, fun gameplay and a little thinking too.
When I rented this one I was worried as for me the Lego Indiana Jones was quite disappointing - short playtime, many bugs and glitches and just not as fun missions.
However Batman delivers. Game looks much better than any of the previous ones, there are a lot of missions - you get play the Villains and the heroes in separate episodes. In general the game seems more polished than the predecessors.
Humor is still there and the animations are funny. In general very fun game for 1 or 2 players.
For younger players the game might be a little more challenging than the star wars ones. Also game contains hacking and slashing of lego characters - obviously its done in very non-gruesome way but there is beating of the bad guys.
Game has a lot puzzle-like elements - you have to figure out your way through the missions buy building and finding different things. Some of these can be quite hard for younger kids.
With bigger and more grand environments the characters often end up being quite small and the biggest source of frustration is when the camera angles don't reveal where you are walking very well.
We (me and my wife) finished the 1st set of the missions on the rental and now I am buying the game (never bought indy)
