5 out of 5 stars A SLICK AND STYLISH CULT-CLASSIC 8.75 OUT OF 10   October 4, 2008
I'm not like most people I know who own an Xbox. I virtually never play Halo and my favorite game on the system is Panzer Dragoon Orta. I look for games that think outside the box, games that are different from the norm. With first-person shooters it's especially tough to get me excited or impress me with what's thrown at me; I've played the great titles from the genre, and my personal favorites are Perfect Dark and Doom which are nearly flawless games. XIII intrigued me with its kickass art style that looks exactly like a comic book and it's considered by OXM to be one of the twenty best Xbox games no one played, so I picked it up and it was great. It's not the best FPS I've ever played but it's better than most I've played.
WHAT THE GAME IS: As I explained before, this game is an FPS, only there are no space marines and no one named Master Chief in sight. This game is based off of a French comic book. You play as a man named XIII, who is suffering from a case of amnesia after being discovered half-dead on a beach. XIII is wanted for the assassination of the president, and FBI agents and most of the agents from his organization are out to get him. XIII must discover the secrets from his past and remember what truly happened to him in this thrilling FPS.
GRAPHICS: This game has impressive animation and a great comic book-look that still shines five years after the title's release. It's not the best visuals ever, but it still looks better than other games that try to look like comic book games (Drake sucked, cough, cough). This game even displays frame-by-frame kills when you kill an enemy by firing a crossbow at them. Even words appear for when the characters speak or when there's an enemy approaching. These can help you during the stealth scenes in the game to spot an oncoming enemy.
MUSIC: This game really fits into a jazz-type theme along some other classy type music that really fits the mood and gives the game a better feel.
SOUND: Shooting, voice work that's somewhat annoying, dying screams, and explosions. The sound quality is quite good.
GAMEPLAY: I was pissed off when I saw that Game Informer only gave this great game a 7 out of 10 and talked about Halo on top of that (Remember, don't listen to their reviews that date before 2006). This game performs just as well as any other FPS on the market and even adds some new stuff to the mix like a grappling hook. Shooting also feels more realistic and the guns seem to have a bigger kick when they fire than in other games. This game mixes shooting scenes, stealth, puzzle-solving, lots of item collecting, and even some platforming. This game requires a lot more thought to complete a mission than in Halo because it's more challenging than the simplistic Halo. You can even use objects like chairs, bottles, and ash trays as weapons when you run out of ammo so you can take care of an enemy quickly. The grappling hook comes into play when you need to reach up to a ledge and you can't get there without the help of the grappling hook. This game has a very nice selection of weapons to choose from and most of them perform quite well. I did notice some problems with targeting with the long-range weapons like the crossbow because it doesn't feel steady at times. Also the stealth scenes can be downright frustrating. This game is a blast to play and it doesn't let its minor flaws ruin the experience for those who play it.
OVERALL: If you own any of the consoles this game is for you should purchase this unique and stylish title that so few people played (Shame, shame). The story is very intriguing and interesting and the gameplay is highly polished and has a lot of nice extras to go with it.
THE GOOD: Lots of guns, more realistic shooting feel, great animated graphics, great music, lots of things to collect, neat devices to play with, some stuff to blow up, and a unique and cool storyline.
THE BAD: Stealth scenes are a pain, acting is a little cheesy, targeting for long-range weapons is sometimes an issue.

5 out of 5 stars Like a comic strip!   April 26, 2008
This game is really fun. I like comics and this was just so perfect for my taste. If you like comics than this is the game for you!!!

4 out of 5 stars Fun and Beautiful!   April 4, 2008
This game had all the potential to be one of the best games I've ever played. It's one of those games that you can play over and over again and never get bored of because you're constantly thinking I could do that better. You also do basically everything but drive and fly! There's elements of stealth games and puzzle games although the objective are easy enough to understand.

It achieves an original look by putting you in a comic book realm. The backrounds are amongst the best I've seen in XBOX. Although the sound can be a little cheesy, it works OK and there's a variety of weapons. Everything from a single and semi-auto crossbow to throwing knives and a harpoon gun. The usual weapons are there; Pistols, machine guns, grenades, you know.

Although it's fun to play the game does has one fatal flaw, the story. It comes across as a bigger budget but lower quality Bourne. Why? Complete lack of character development. You never learn anything about the characters beyond of what you're seeing on the screen. There's no Max Payne-style psychological drama, nothing. It's not cofusing, but the all the characters, all of them, have the same kind of flat personalities. It's a complicated plot but not confusing and this flaw doesn't affect the story.

All in all it's a good game and worth playing.

1 out of 5 stars NO LEFTY SETTING!   August 14, 2007
In shooter games like this I like to use the left stick to aim and the right stick to walk. This game has no such setting making it unplayable for a lefty like myself! BOO!

5 out of 5 stars It's pronounced Thir-teen.(IT's A JOKE)   November 20, 2005
With the release of the X-box 360 the days are looking grim on an already sleeper hit.In XIII you plays as well XIII so you think. The main character lacks a good train of thought as he lost his memory.Amnesia has struck him but things seem clears as help is on its way.Your help is from a secret orginization that is fighting a conspiracy at the current moment and you've been asigned to help.

This game is another First Person Shooter(FPS)with some twists. This game seems generic but is far from it.The aiming is very tricky to master and makes it fun.The plot is appetizingly new,and the cast of characters is decent enough. The game had amazing X-box live support during the bigger days of X-Box live but many dropped off this game.Very addictive multiplayer.Lots of gun variety and characters to choose from. Many levels and stats are fun to raise amd rave about online.

The games music features a jazzy over tone, and the game is
cel-shaded giving a 3-D comic effect. This left lasting good impressions and i hope they create a sequal.
