A toy would work better November 13, 2007 I paid $7.88 for this last week & it's definitely going back to the store. I used (or tried to use) it for Skype and unless I held it right up to my mouth, I couldn't be heard. There was also a terrible echo on the other end. By the end of a one hour coversation, it had quit working completely. I had a Skype microphone that worked fine until my daughter decided to play Hannah Montana with it and broke it. I wouldn't recommend even bothering this this thing, when it works, it works poorly and sporadically.
Regular use? No way. Occasional use? Maybe. July 21, 2007 This is a low quality microphone (also low cost). It works alright but just won't due for regular use or if the user needs any high quality sound picked up from it. I am currently using this microphone for Skype for about 15-60 minutes daily and the person on the other end often has a difficult time hearing me if I don't speak very clearly directly into the microphone. If the microphone is >6 inches from my mouth, forget about it -- the volume drops off quickly. I will probably use this microphone for the next 1-3 months until I replace it with something for more regular use. I would only recommend this to someone who needs a microphone occasionally and does not need it for anything serious.
That said, one "feature" for the casual user is a piece of plastic that comes with it that has double-sided tape on it for wall mounting, which is the base of the plastic shown in the Amazon picture (see the customer images if you aren't sure which part I'm talking about). This is a nice feature to keep the microphone out of the way when it isn't in use but within reach for the rare day its needed (and it will be harder to lose). I have not tested the tape so I don't know if it works well or not.
Note: the sound quality problem is not related to Skype -- my cheap Skype phone that I was using previously had better sound quality (it recently broke for no reason so I replaced it with this microphone).
*** Update, Sept 18th: I've reverted to a 5 year old microphone that has no "echo" when I'm talking on Skype. ***
Disappointed July 13, 2007 Transmision is of poor quality. Have to hold the mic up to your mouth to be able to be heard. Disappointed in this product.
not so hot July 4, 2007 this mic is cheap, but has serious limitations. you need to be quite close to it for effective voice capture, no more than a few inches away. i tried playing with all my audio settings, plugging into different jacks, using and not using mic boost, etc. to no avail. it works up close, and has decent fidelity, but nothing amazing. i don't see the point of the lapel-holder as it is too far away from your mouth to pick up your voice (if it's on your shirt). though it's a cheap deal, i wouldn't recommend it unless you don't mind holding a mic to your mouth for an extended period.
Great for the price June 11, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's still working!
Pros:
Should have a long life, as it is not thrashed around - being mounted. A 'holster' with a stick pad on the bottom, to mount it where you want. I put it on my desk above the keyboard. Great price! Small size. Long cable.
Cons:
Being a desktop microphone, it's going to pick up more background noise. Does it come in black?
Would I buy it again? Definately, definately!
