Avoid like the plague September 4, 2008 I'm the computer technician for our company. I just pulled this very hard drive out of a barely two year old system after it died and I've been working to get an employee's critical files off of it for the last few days. After reading the other reviews, I have to agree- this drive is a death camp for your electronic media. If you absolutely positively want to buy this thing, go right ahead, but don't say you haven't been warned.
Lasted 25 months, all data destroyed December 3, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Lost all data instantly due to HD failure. Cannot recommend.
And this was definite hardware failure, not logical corruption. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to repartition, reformat and reinstall OS the drive died completely.
Awful product. Awful, awful, awful May 19, 2007 16 out of 21 found this review helpful
If I wasn't clear enough in the subject of my review, let me restate: this is an awful product. I purchased a Toshiba Satellite which came equipped with this piece of crud. 18 months later it fried itself, and I lost all my data. Toshiba said the 1-year warranty on my computer was kaput, so they basically told me to go frag myself. But I found in the fine print that all Toshiba HDDs carry a warrantee of 3 years (nobody tells you this; you must waste weeks researching the problem like I did).
I got a hold of toshiba's HDD division and, yes, they finally admitted that it is their responsibility to replace the product. All was peachy for a while. I sent it in immediately. 1 week later. 2 weeks later. 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks... (this is beginning to sound like a Dr. Seuss poem)
After 5 MONTHS, I got my replacement. But lol they forgot the adapter, so I had to wait another 2 weeks for that.
Finally I got it installed. It seemed to run ok. For exactly 12 months. Now, guess what---kaputsville again. Oh calgon take me away. I don't want to go through this hell again.
Please, please, please... don't fall into the same trap I did. Avoid this product like the plague. It may be wise to avoid all Toshiba notebook products, I don't know. If I had known this information 3 years ago, I would have bought a Sony and saved my self all that blood pressure medication I've had to buy.
