3 out of 5 stars Fun pool game with annoying sounds.   February 19, 2008
First off, I really do enjoy this game. It is a nice way to pass the time on an airplane, and having all of the different game options beyond 8-ball and 9-ball helps keep it interesting. I think it's a great PSP game for people who enjoy pool.

I do, however, have a few complaints:

1. Really horribly annoying music. I turned it off after about 5 minutes.

2. Really repetitive crowd noise. At first it was very amusing, but when you hear the same comment about 50 times in one game, the amusement fades. You can turn it off, but I like the idea and wish it had more variety.

3. It is initially unclear how a "win" is recorded. I won a few games but then when I looked in the notebook I found that I had no wins recorded! It turns out that if you don't play until one of you wins 3 out of 5 you don't get the win. I didn't realize this, and when you select "Stop Playing" it does not warn you of this. Mildly annoying.

1 out of 5 stars Very Disapointing...   May 31, 2006

Ok, first off let me say that when I bought this game I didn't expect it to be only a pool game. On the back of the game box it says "Hot chicks, bar-room brawls". I have been playing this for an hour and all I'm seeing is crappy digital animation, crazy long loading screens, and sound clips that keep looping over and over again. Please do not waste your money on this game as I'm sure that if you're not a die-hard pool fan you will not enjoy it....

I bought this game with every intention of selling it if it stunk, but found myself staying up until one in the morning playing the day I got it.

The gameplay is quite well thought-out for a pool game, and the animations are fine. There are load time lags all over the place, but you get used to the rhythm of the game. After you set up your shot, it's a few seconds before you actually see the result. The upshot: don't expect to get a game in while on the toilet or on a short bus ride, because they unfold at a slower (but not lethargic by any stretch) pace.

My only qualms are with the sounds: There are only two songs in the soundtrack, so you'll find yourself turning the music off fairly quickly into the game. Also, the "comments" from the spectators get repetitive very quickly, but crowd noise is needed for ambience, so you're sort of stuck with the calls of "That's B.S.!" and "My sister plays better than you!"

For the price, this is a fun addition to the PSP library.
