Call of Duty 5 - Christmas Present January 6, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this item for my 9 yr old son who is really into WWII and the military. He has all but one of the Call of Duty games. This is the DS version. He loves the game and was thrilled to get it for Christmas. The only problem I have is the language. I wish they would make a version that is more for kids. The rating is for Teen so I knew it was there.
Very fun January 1, 2009 When I first saw this game, while looking for a DS game that my kid and I could play, I was hesitant because we have all of the COD games for our 360. I didn't want to waste money by buying a dupicate game I would not be happy with. I took a chance and am glad I did. First, this version bares little resembance to the larger versions made for ps3 or 360. Pretty much everything is different and this is of course made for the DS. It is very cool and a lot of fun. My gripe was that I thought we could play multiplayer off of 1 card- a great + for games like MarioKart for DS or the new CARS. Well, I splurged and bought a second game card right here on Amazon. Now my kid and I each have our own and we play against each other- VERY FUN!!!! I highly recommend this game, it is a real hoot!
Surprisingly great December 10, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
First person shooters on the DS are rarely this good. First person shooters from third-party developers and publishers on the DS that are this good are something even more rare. Call of Duty: World at War is such a rarity, and is a spectacular follow-up to last year's surprisingly good Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the DS. Going back to World War II, World at War features an engaging and cinematic presentation that provides some wonderful shooter action, as well as some of the best graphics and sound to come from a third party DS game in some time. Animations and effects look great, while the voice over work and overall audio production sound simply fantastic for a DS game. Controls via the stylus, touch screen, and face buttons can become uncomfortable, but is accurate and really displays what an FPS can do on the DS, while the game also offers enough replay value to keep you coming back, including some lengthy missions and more than solid multiplayer via the DS' Wi-Fi capability. All in all, there's plenty to admire here with Call of Duty: World at War on the DS, and the game by and far ranks as the best third party FPS to hit the DS yet, and definitely deserves a place in your DS library if you're an FPS fan.
#1 DS game of the year November 13, 2008 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Just to tell you before I start going on about how great this game is, I'm not p. gasper, I'm her son. I got this game the day it came out, and I am about 3/4 of the way through it. I've experienced enough to tell you that this game is probely the best game you will ever buy. The realism has improved from COD4, such as seeing your hands when reloading, and the soldiers' faces are not flat(Except for the Soviets)You do have to get used to the less modern weapons, like the Tommy instead of a M16. The tank and bomber levels do take a little time master. There is an exclusive British campain on the game that adds to the reasons to buy it. Even though it is not as thrilling as the 360 version,it is still part of the greatest war game franchise. Don't believe me, try it.
One last thing, the revolver and the Soviet SMG and pistol are the most powerful weapons in the game. I haven't used all of the weapons in the game, but these three are probly the most reliable.
