Amazon.com Product Description The Battlezone is the full moon base established when the real "Space Race" began. Space programs launched by both Soviet and American militaries search for valuable bio-metal deposits. Only one country can have control and it is your mission to control the alien technology before they do. Battlezone Gold packs greater fighting power with the inclusion of two mission packs and the official strategy guide.

Perfect April 15, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This holds the sacred title of "Perfect Game" in my mind. This is not an honor bestowed lightly; less than five have it.
It is a very original blend of action and strategy, with elements of flight simulation (although you can't quite fly) and even mech combat. It is science fiction, but not overblown and unbelieveable.
Not only was this an amazing game when it came out (it was a contemporary of Thief: The Dark Project, Half-Life, and Rainbow Six), but it is still just as amazing when you pick it up today. The graphics, while slightly outdated, are not so outdated that they detract from the immersion (Thief: The Dark Project is the most immersive game I have ever played, but I have a hard time becoming immersed now that the graphics are so outdated).
I always hope newer games will come out like this series. May 28, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Battlezone Gold series is easily among my top 5 of all time. It's really best to get this Gold series because if you like Battlezone, which is an incredible mix of first-person drive/shoot and resource strategy, well, you'll want the expansion packs too. The single-player of BZ and its expansions is great! There's a great story to it with humor and real challenge. The interface becomes second-nature fairly rapidly. Once you've got that down, then you can challenge others in multiplayer. It is an absolute blast to play networked with friends. My friends and I have spent more than 2 years going at it with each other in this game, and it was greatly enhanced by the expansions, offering loads of great new single & multi-player maps plus new vehicles & buildings. It's an older game, but it won't feel like one. Just think of it as a great new gametype for some ridiculously low price. Be sure to look up the fan sites for tweaking support and even more content.
This is THE Game! July 17, 2000 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Of all of the strategy, tactics or first person games I own, this is the best and most often played. I have even tried BZ II and found it to come short of the original. There is not much I can add to the publisher's description above, however, I will say this: once you play you will be addicted. The challenge, no matter how many times I have won, is still there. This is the best entertainment investment I have ever made. I especially like two facets of the game. First, you have the option to play either the Americans or the Russians, you are not limited to one or the other. Second, there are support groups on the web that allow you to download new maps, map generators, etc. for endless hours of additional fun. Well worth the purchase price!
Tired of 1st person shoot ups and drawn out strategy games? March 10, 2000 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am not a big fan of stragety games (command & conq., Starcraft) because I cannot seem to get the hang of it, and cannot micromanage fast enough to keep up. Also get bored after 15 levels of 1st person "killing sprees" and "jumping" puzzles. This game breaks that mode and offers alot of enjoyment and playability/"legs". Believe me, you will enjoy it! It run great on a 233Mhz with Voodoo2 card, and the vehicle "physics" will blow you away. Ever wondered what it would be like to drive on the moon? Missions are just the right length and offers a good story line. Don't believe me, just go to any gamer site and read the reviews.
good stratagy and action for older computers January 23, 2000 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a good game if you like the Command and Conquer type of game. The only difference is you are one of the units in the game. You can tell your men to attack enemies from afar being the general that stands on the nearby hillside or you can have them accompany you in battle. The story line is very interesting and fun to read about. The strategy guide that comes with the Gold edition is somewhat helpful because it explains the tanks available weapons that aren't explained very well in the Activision manual. Lastly, I have an older computer with a 150MHz chip and a 4Mb 3D Monster card and it looks the same as my friends 500MHz PIII without a 3D card. So if you have an older computer like mine and enjoy strategy/action games, this will be a good choice.
