Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A UNIQUE AND INTERESTING PLATFORMER 8 OUT OF 10   August 21, 2008
Jewel Master is a rather unique platforming retread for the Genesis. The game is tough, and it will take some time to get used to the gameplay, but once you get the hang of it, it's a fun experience worthy on an investment or at least an hour of playtime.
WHAT THE GAME IS: Long ago in the land of Mythgard, a demon king tried to take over the kingdom and use the elements of the earth as a weapon, until a group of people possessing these elements stopped him. Mythgard is in peril once again from demons, and you must you the rings of elemental magic: Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind to fight the demons.
GRAPHICS: This game looks decent most of the time, but at times looks mediocre, but for a game from 1991 it looks good.
MUSIC: It sets the adventurous mood and is usually pretty good.
SOUND: Using elemental powers, that's all you hear.
GAMEPLAY: Works like a standard side-scrolling platformer, but it uses a unique ring system. You go to a menu and you place the rings you wish to use for elemental power on each hand and you can get more rings as you progress through each level and defeat enemies. The game's controls work well, but the health and credits system is cheap and you will die and get many game overs before you can get it right, causing you to not like this game at first. Once you get the ball rolling and stop dying as much its a rather good experience.
OVERALL: If you're looking for a challenging game on the Genesis this is definitely for you, because this game has a steep difficulty at first because of the health, lives, and credits system.
THE GOOD: Good platforming, unique ring system, challenging, good music.
THE BAD: Abysmal shield system, health, lives, and credits system is harsh.
