Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The fourth installment in the Legacy of Kain series is a 3rd person 3D action/combat game in which you assume the role of the vampire Kain.

Amazon.com Product Description
You are the vampire Kain, the most evil figure ever to appear in a video game. Cloaked in stealth, you will move through crowds unseen, travel stories above the peasant herds on which you feed--leaping from rooftop to rooftop--and use mind control to overcome vampire-proof inventions. The combat choreography in Blood Omen 2 unfolds with dancelike precision as Kain engages armies of demons and humans alike. The comprehensive menu of unstoppable attacks, nimble combos, and special moves are designed to appeal to even the most jaded of fighting game fans. The world that Kain moves through is a lushly detailed gothic environment that is not only gorgeous to the eye, but also alive with the soon-to-be-dead. The AI behavioral response makes peasants and enemies variously flee, take up arms, or remain unaware as Kain moves through crowds or charges, sword raised, into open areas.

4 out of 5 stars Good game, but could be better   November 28, 2005
Blood Omen 2 is a good game overall, which is hard to find these days. The story is intriguing and the characters are interesting. Let's break this game down:

GRAPHICS: I give the graphics 3 out of 5 because I don't believe the graphics are to the standard we expect of an X BOX game. The graphics don't look much different than the PSX.

CONTROLS: I give the controls 3 out of 5 because the controls are easy to master; however, even with your gained powers throughout the game you can't do much. You continue to hack and slash the same way throughout the game all the way to the end. Also, it is difficult at times to fight several enemies or enemies with armor as they have special attacks they use frequently that you can not block and in some cases can't dodge.

FUN FACTOR: I give the fun factor 4 out of 5 as I believe the game is still fun to play despite the discrepancies within the game. The story line is almost enough to keep you interested. Additionally, you have to use your head as most levels contain puzzles you have to solve in order to open a door or destroy an enemy. It is not your typical hack and slash game.

I gave this game a four star rating because I have enjoyed playing this game despite the discrepancies. I like the fact that you gain additional powers throughout the game. For example with the mist power, you can sneak up to enemies and conduct a stealth kill. If you are looking for a good game that is somewhat challenging and you like the Legacy of Kain series this may be a good game for you; however, if you get frustrated easily this may not be a good choice as the controls and moves are a bit cumbersome.

5 out of 5 stars A very fun game to play   August 25, 2004
I'm sure there are many gamers out there who, with enough imagination, will find something wrong to say with any x-box game. I'm not one of those people. I found the game really fun, and I recommend this game to any one who likes games who are challenging but accessible. I'm sure some will find that this description doesn't deserve a Five star rating, and maybe they are right. But the truth is I wish more reviews were more honest (from the heart) and less technical. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed if you get this game!

2 out of 5 stars Terrible addition to the franchise   August 12, 2004

I started the SR series with Legacy of Kain (SR2). I was sadly disappointed in Blood Omen 2, which has none of the ingenuity or artistry of the SR series. So I settled in for an action game, and was disappointed in the fighting engine (very tricky, and often results in your character getting killed from behind). Halfway through the game, emphasis seems to switch from action to lever-pulling, as you have a series of nonsensical puzzles to solve. Definitely the most depressing part of the game is the cut-scenes. Everyone in the game talks like they're fresh out of a vampire soap opera (kind of like an Anne Rice rip-off but without the sex). Plus, if your character gets killed after listening to a 3-minute dialogue segment, you have to watch the whole thing over again. And again. And again, until you get to the next save point. Very frustrating. I would NOT reccommend this game.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but definetly has problems   September 12, 2003

The Blood Omen series is very different from its sister series Soul Reaver (which I highly recommend). Don't get me wrong, this game is pretty cool at times. But I have a hard time getting past the lame combat system ( you have to hold down the left trigger and then press ONE button to attack). The blood drinking is cool, but the meter gets annoying. You have to constantly drink blood or the meter will run out and you'll die. This is also a very linear game, you have one path to go and thats all you can do, go forward down a straight path (I have a hard time believing in a huge city there is only one road or alley). BUT, this game is alot more accessible than the Soul Reaver series. People not familiar with the Legacy of Kain saga can pick up this game and have a good time. Soul reaver focuses more on building on the plot while Blood Omen focuses on action. If your a fan of action games with a good story I would definetly recommend picking up all of the Legacy of Kain games (Blood Omen and Soul Reaver tie in together). Start with the first Blood Omen, as is the start of this engrossing tale.

5 out of 5 stars {BLOODLUST AND BRUTALITY!}   June 16, 2003

Kain is back to reclaim the high throne! Cast down from power by a mysterious warlord centuries ago, Kain reawakens in a world he barley regonizes. His armies slain, his vampire brethen nearly extinct, Kain is one of the last of his kind. With an agenda of vegence, Kain shall unleash a wicked wrath to uncover the plot that threatens the land he seeks to conquer. Execute fierce and brutal combos with battle-axes, swords and other heavy metal weaponry. When weapon edges dull on bone and steel, turn to Dark Gifts such as beserk and stealth to exact your lethal will. In pursuit of power or just for the thrill of the kill, Kain's lust for blood is inspiring. For more info on this game go to: [website] Lead Kain through highly detailed enviroments of gothic nightmare; host to thieves, knights, and demons of all sort! And of couse the XBOX version offers the best sound: 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround, and smoothed out graphics for the ultimate Blood Omen experience!
