The granddaddy of console first-person shooters makes its way to next-generation consoles in style in Turok Evolution. Blast your way through velociraptors, stegosaurs, ankylosaurs, brachiosaurs, and other enemies with the most ludicrously destructive weapons ever--including variable payload cruise missiles, gravity disruptor beams, and the mighty swarm bore--and prepare to pick your jaw up off the floor when you see the devastation they cause. The graphics are utterly gorgeous: the game's 50-odd species, from harmless ickle butterflies to merciless T. rexes, are rendered in painstaking detail, and the environments are lush and interactive--plants and trees move as creatures brush through them, and you can shoot down trees to crush your enemies (or scuttle off as they try to knock piles of rocks down on you). The explosions and enemy deaths are particularly gobsmacking, and the sound effects are just as good.

Thankfully, all this is backed up by great gameplay--an entirely new game engine has been developed for next-gen hardware, and though Turok Evolution is principally a first-person shooter, in certain levels you're backed up by a squad of allies, and in others you get to ride a flying dino with strap-on rocket launchers. The advanced AI means that both enemies and allies behave in a realistic manner and will adapt their tactics depending on whether you approach with stealth or force. There are over 60 stages across a variety of single- and split-screen multiplayer modes, with different difficulty levels for rookies or experts. Turok Evolution is an absolute must-have for FPS fans. --Rikki Price

Amazon.com Product Description
Turok: Evolution is a prequel that takes us back to the origins of the Turok lineage. In the beginning of the game, we see our hero, Tal'Set, fighting nemesis Captain Tobias Bruckner in 1886 Texas. During the battle, a rift between their world and the Lost Lands opens and Tal'Set is sucked into it.

Features and enhancements to this new installment in the Turok franchise include the groundbreaking Squad Dynamics System (SDS) for realistic enemy and allied squad AI, and an entirely new game engine built to take full advantage of the next-generation hardware platforms. All-new weapons including Variable Payload Cruise Missiles, Gravity Disrupter Beams, and the Swarm Bore--each with unique traits and damage. Flight sequences now enable players to soar through the skies on a winged pteranodon, and scripted event sequences bring the world to life with stunning detail.

Turok: Evolution features 32 types of prehistoric and indigenous life rendered with frightening realism. The game is full of destructible objects and environments: shoot down trees over your enemies and collapse massive rock spires onto dinosaurs. The environments consist of lush, living jungles. Plants move as dinosaurs brush against them while trees sway in the wind. The game also includes stealth- and action-based gameplay directed by context-sensitive, mission-based sequences. Great care was also taken with the multiplayer modes, which were developed by a dedicated team of designers, programmers, and artists.

MODEL- 23273 VENDOR- ACCLAIM FEATURES- Turok: Evolution November 10, 1886. Texas. As the last surviving members of the Saquin Nation make a desperate attempt to escape to the relative safety of Mexico, they are unaware that they have played into the hands of the bloodthirsty Captain Tobias Bruckner. Under orders to bring in Chief Grey Bear, the warrior-brave TalSet, and the remaining Saquin without bloodshed, Captain Bruckner reneges and springs a deadly ambush. Bruckner is a man possessed. Called "Red Snake" by the Native tribes of the Southwest, he has hunted the Saquin for years. The great Chief Grey Bear, one of the most brilliant and respected of the Native American Chiefs falls victim to a snipers bullet, and Captain Bruckner orders the slaughter of the remaining Saquin people. As the bullets fly, TalSet and the remaining Saquin braves leap into battle, exacting a terrible toll on the Indian Hunters even as they are cut down one by one. Himself mortally wounded by Bruckner in the battle, TalSet cuts through the Cavalry troops and embraces Bruckner in a deadly melee. War club and Saber clash, and at the height of the battle, a cave-in sends TalSet and Bruckner tumbling into a mysterious underground cavern covered in ancient symbols and strange artifacts. TalSet is dying. Bleeding to death from a bullet wound to the liver. Desperate to avenge the death of his people, TalSet once again locks in mortal combat with Bruckner. As hi

4 out of 5 stars Exciting   April 4, 2008
Lot's of thrills and kills. This according to my 14 year old son.
A must have for any collection

3 out of 5 stars I played it shortly...   March 30, 2007
...and I don't play so much shooters, but got this as a present. For me, it has well picked enviroment: prehistoric dino age combined w hi tech lizard humanoids.

It IS difficult, and it has auto save, but if you think for a minute before you start a part of mission, it pays.

It looks like this after first chapter, second one is flying . If I ever beat it, I'll write you with complete impression.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME by:Andrew Creighton   February 14, 2007
this is a great game, its old but it is still very violent and fun.it has very few glitches here and there, but for shooter fanatics, this game is the bomb! Why?because it has blood+gore, dinosaurs, alternative weapon styles, lots of guns and you can look up cheats for it.personnaly, its not my favorite but if you like odd creatures to,youd better get off the couch and buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Good Game   January 29, 2007
This game is an excellent two player game! Going head to head against your friends is a lot of fun. Playing the game part of it is good, but not great. I have played a lot of worse games, this one is worth buying. Especially if you play with your friends a lot.
