Bad. Period. March 3, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have this game and a game boy micro. The screen is small, I know...smaller than the Advance. But, I can't imagine this game would look any better even on the Advance handheld itself. It's just ugly. Most of the stuff you see is blocking and blurry, to the point where it's hard to drive without running into stuff constantly.
I haven't played the game much- I should note this. I've played maybe a half hour of it- it was just too boring for me. It's not overly difficult, which would be a bad thing in my view, and it's not too easy either from what I've seen of it. It's just a poorly set up racing game with boring tracks and very few options to keep the fun lasting very long. That and the terrible graphics are just too much to bear. I've played a few other racing games on the GBA, and they're all superior to this one.
I just felt like this was a wasted effort- not enough options to make it playable for a long time, bad graphics, poor gameplay overall. I'd pass on this one. I'd love to say more indepth, but like I said, I couldn't stand the game so I played it for maybe 30 mins total in the month I've had it.
A TOTALLY HOT RACING GAME!!! April 14, 2004 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
NFSPU was my first GBA game I have got. I just love the graphics of the racing games that Game Boy Advanced put out like Mario Kart Super Circuit, Need for speed Underground, ect. If you like the Need for speed series then buy it now. It is a really good game and I really liked it.
Not bad April 2, 2004 The graphics in this game are on a par with those in Need for Speed Underground for the GBA. Which means that the 3D objects are all very blocky and blurry, but they move fluidly enough. The gameplay is alright, but I found NFSU more fun. The feeling of real speed seems to be missing from this one. Also, the invisible walls on side of some of the tracks drive me crazy. The in-car "cockpit" view is a nice touch, along with the ability to use the shoulder buttons to look to the left, right, and behind to see the cars around you. But you lose the look-around capability if you opt for manual transmission, which requires the shoulder buttons for shifting. You can also switch to the typical behind-the-car view. I read somewhere that NFSPU was based on (or used the same engine as) one of the V-Rally games. I don't remember the details, or know how true that is. But the nicest graphics I have seen to date on the GBA were in V-Rally 3. Unfortunately, the gameplay in V-Rally 3 kind of sucked. NFSPU does not look as good as V-Rally 3, but the gameplay is a bit better. There are far worse racing games for the GBA than this one. But this one is not the best. Overall, I still prefer NFSU.
