4 out of 5 stars Fun Game   July 12, 2007
For me, a firefighter paramedic who can't seem to get enough, this game has provided some serious hours of entertainment on the slow days at work.

3 out of 5 stars soooo much potential :(   July 27, 2006

this game has all the makings of a wonderful, original, fun, addictive and immersive game. but it fails in a fundamental department - YOUR FIREFIGHTERS ARE IDIOTS. this wouldn't be a big deal if you could devote all your time to fighting the fire with a few groups of men. unfortunately, you are constantly scrambling to deal with 3 or more things at one time on the big map, and the biggest problem you have is that your firefighters are surrounded by flames and they JUST STAND THERE. what on earth?!?! it's nice to have control over what happens, but don't you think a firefighter would actually, you know, TRY TO PUT OUT THE FIRE SURROUNDING HIM?!?!?! also if they need to refill their tanks, they just stand there. or if they're being killed by fire, they just stand there. or if a guy with a huge water house is spraying a huge fire, he'll spray dry land instead of moving his hose 1 inch to put out fire. huh? it's really sad they screwed that up on this game, because otherwise it's incredible and very very fun. another thing is that when you play a new scenario, you're confronted with unknowns. on one map it says to "use the forklift to get to the workshop." unfortunately it doesn't bother to show you where the workshop IS or even what it is!!! on another map, it says to put out the chlorine reserves, but it doesn't show you WHAT the chlorine reserves are! this isn't really fair because a real firefighter would know what they are, but you don't.

unfortunately due to the ridiculous stupidity of the firefighters and not knowing what certain things are, i'm forced to play this game on the easy setting (at least the first time on the map), which brings up another problem - it takes the tension out of the game. they just didn't strike that delicate balance on the normal setting that could have made this game an all-time classic, and all they had to do was make the firefighters have somewhat of a brain!!

two other things - when fighting a fire, the game interrupts you a lot with notes, like "watch out for this explosive device, this person is trapped in this room" etc. this can get annoying. my advice is to SAVE your game to avoid long, annoying firefights. another thing is your paramedic isn't really that special. he can heal people on the spot, but you rarely need that function. any firefighter can save people. also driving vehicles is a bit funky. it's not TOO hard, but it requires constant use of driving backwards. why didn't they simplify it?

because your firefighters stand around so much, you need to learn to use the CTRL function with the firefighters' faces at the bottom. using this you can save a whole lot of time. you can also, for example, click on a face that needs to refill their tank, right click on tanker and they'll go there without you having to scroll the big map over to them. how sad that even the interface is brilliant, but your men are so dumb! :( maybe a future game can do that better?

also the system requirements are high! i had to play it on low setting, and strangely, the graphic quality doesn't seem to suffer. i might finish this game on easy setting, but on normal it's so frustrating, i don't know if i'll bother. there's a ton of micro-management here, which i usually like, but that idea CAN go too far. you can play it on easy and have a laid-back gaming experience, or on normal for a very fast, furious firefight and get mad at your men. it's reminiscent of the sims 2, but much faster and more frustrating.

5 out of 5 stars Where strategy and Tactics work....   September 20, 2005

I have to admit, I was skeptical about this game. The graphics are good, in spots, VERY good in others, but not great. I've had a few unexplained crashes of the game, but it's on a PC, so they do bad things at the worst moments. I like the units and their capibilities, but I have only one major bone to pick with the game. The user can't call for additional resources and units. This is the only major flaw in the game.

I've Played the "Emergency: Fight/Ultimate Fight for life" series and "Emergency Fire Response" beats that one hands down. Controls are concice and fast moving. The units have the ability to show limited initiative. And can withdraw then they are in trouble. They give you warnings of trouble and make it easy to get to those units when they call. Fight for life could learn tons from what this game has. I enjoted it greatly, and believe most into RTS genre will too.
But be warned, resources are limited and scenarios tough, so plan well and pay attention.

4 out of 5 stars It is good but not perfect   August 16, 2005

I have the game and I am kind of impressed but really not as much as I thought I waould be. It has good graphics and it does have challenging levels. It is a good game except without the lights on the trucks, which is why I give it a 4

5 out of 5 stars Great game for any firefighter or ems!   October 26, 2004

I am proud to say that I serve my community here in Niagara County in Western New York as a Firefighter and an EMT. I always kind of wondered, however, on MCIs (Mulitple Casuality Incidents) how hard it is for the command officer to take charge and get things done. I did not know what it would be like. I guess this showed me!
