4 out of 5 stars Not Unreal, but not bad   March 29, 2008
Although some of the stuff from Unreal is here, it is not really a sequal. And it is not anywhere near as long.

The different missions vary from excellent to mundane. It is very hard in spots, I found it better when set on Easy. But then, I like to look at the scenery...

The second mission, in the forest, is very good and effective in making you feel immersed, almost as good as the original, and seemed more realistic than most games, at least to me.

The missions are so different from each other, that if you don't like one you might like the next a lot.

There is not much on the ship, but it is just enough to let you catch your breath.

Be careful to pick up stuff at the end of missions, if you trigger the cutscene you can't get back.

2 out of 5 stars UNREAListicly Disappointing...   November 18, 2007

The original UNREAL was a PHENOMENAL GAME - one of THE BEST ever created. I can understand that measuring up to that legacy would not be easy. But, at least, ATARI could had tried.

This is NOT a game that has anything to do with the original title. I could not get involved, couldn't care less about the characters or the story. It took me all of two afternoons to finish it off and was a great disappointment since I was a great fun of the first and couldn't wait to get my hands on the "sequel" - which it is not.

The graphics are good but nothing close to groundbreaking. The surfaces are nice, the shadows non-existent and the muzzle-flashes totally annoying.

This is the Special Edition, containing a Multiplayer. It is not a bad idea - yet who would opt for this instead of UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004 (not to mention the upcoming new UT3)?

If you have an older system that cannot handle the latest FPS releases, I would advise FAR CRY or RED FACTION I instead. Even graphically older, the original UNREAL would be a much wiser choice.

2 out of 5 stars boring compared to original Unreal   November 6, 2005

I kept waiting for this game to dazzle me in some way like the original Unreal did, with its magical characters, visuals, and score. That moment never came. It's practically the same game as Halo. I don't know who ripped off who, but the similarities are striking. When I reached a 'boss' part which I couldn't mitigate after many attempts (the difficulty level seemed to double, suddenly) I put this baby on the shelf to collect dust.

4 out of 5 stars You've played this game before...   March 27, 2004

Unreal 2: The Awakening is like any other First Person Shooter game. You are the last hope of the world again, and you must take on the enemy (mostly) alone. Only to be rewarded with similar cut scenes of your transport going from - or coming to your space ship. (Although your First Mate, Aida, is somewhat good looking (...))It's an entertaining story at least. And probably worth the (...) asking price for what it is. Just expect to play it for 6 - 10 hours with little replay.

What sets this game a part from other shooters is the one sniper mission where you have to protect a mechanic from a sniper vantage point. Or the two mini-base building mission, where you protect others by building a force field and gun turrets. Else, you just hunt for the switch or find the Artifact, and even this is fairly straight forward. And the weapons are very imaginative. (Later on in the game...)

To sum it up: AI is great. Graphics are great. Sound is great. The story is good. Characters are good. And the missions are average. Length of the game is short. And the difficulty is adjustable from very easy to insane.

5 out of 5 stars Best FPS game and Best Graphics! Better than Halo PC!   March 12, 2004

This game is Better than Halo for the PC. Halo was very good however this game has EVEN better graphics and design. Plus the aliens do not act like silly dwarfs as in Halo.
The graphics are FREAKIN AWESOME. Doom 3 had BETTER be good to surpass this game! Yes there is a slight, I mean slight cartoonish look to the graphics but it is Very negligible.
Let me tell you.. the women in this game look Flocking hot!
Untill id decides when to release Doom 3 if ever... GET THIS GAME!
