Waste of money January 5, 2009 Buy Spiderman III or any of the other ones based on the films. This is a side scrolling piece of over priced garbage. I bought this for my son for Christmas and was very very disappointed, I knew it would be different from the PS 3 platform, but come on?!?!? I bought him Spider man III two days ago and he loves it. Save you money.
Eeeeeaaaaahhhh... January 2, 2009 I really don't know what to think. see, a friend gave the game to me, so I got it for free. If I had actually bought it I would have thrown up on the screen as soon as it came on. as little dialoge as there is, most of it left me laughing pretty hard. Spider-man got his jokes perfect in this game! what I don't like is that when you beat the game, as soon as you throw the last puch to the boss, a big red stupid screen pops up saying "congradulations! you chose to (your choice here)" and then the main menu pops up. what a bummer, I expected a dramatic ending cinematic, or at least something to show what happened after the boss! also, it's true that the combat at times can get a little boring. also, what really annoys me is that since it's a sidescroller, they tried to fit in as much exporation things as possible, like activate a swich, find a hidden trap door, hit another switch, go back up the trap door, etc. and the last boss is LAME! I expected a giant Venom, like in the next-gen versions, but instead I got a bunch of serpents with Venom's face on them, all cramped into a small garden, stuck to the floor, looking like a fatal flower symbiote thingy. Anyways, I thought it sucked that r1 was both the web zip and web tie button. also, the bosses are RIDICULUSLY hard. all in all, it's not such a bad game.
P.S. they tried to make this a challenging game, but all they got was a boring sort of challenging, like I said, flip a switch, etc.
well, thats all I have to say!
Gets boring after a while November 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With Spider-Man: Web of Shadows swinging across every platform, you'd figure that the PS2 would get a watered down version that if anything, was close to that the Wii would see. Well, with Web of Shadows for the PS2, you'd figure wrong; note the subtitle that reads Amazing Allies Edition. Instead of using the tried & true open world New York City playing style that has been implemented since Spider-Man 2 (and is used on the other versions of Web of Shadows), this PS2 version is a 2-D side scroller-ish beat 'em up. Yeah, it's the 16-bit era of superhero video games all over again, and things haven't changed much either as you'll find here. You play as Spidey, pick up various power-up's, have an occasional team-up with some fellow Marvel heroes, and take down hordes upon hordes of bland baddies and the occasional boss as well. While there is a degree of fun to be had, Web of Shadows does get pretty boring after a while, especially considering that it doesn't take you long to see what all the game has to offer, which the PS2 version has little. Still, the game doesn't look or sound bad one bit, and there is a decent amount of power-up's and unlockables to find, plus the game's story is fun and makes good use of Spidey and his supporting cast of allies and villains. All in all, if you're still holding on to your PS2 and are a Spidey fan, Web of Shadows is worth a rental and nothing more. If you're craving another open-world Spidey adventure though, you won't find it here.

I was so excited about this game after seeing the trailer, I ordered it without waiting for reviews. Boy, I should've waited. Absolutely the worst game I've ever purchased. Played it all of 10 minutes and will not ever play it again. I'll be trading it in a week or two as it is a terible sidescrolling game. I can't believe they can get away with selling this without a huge disclaimer that states it is nothing like the trailer.

Worst version of Web of Shadows October 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is what I worred about when I saw so many versions of the game out. The studio only put out screen shots of the ps3 and nintendo DS versions. Not of the Wii or the PS2. This game is NOTHING close to the trailor that was put out months ago. I am actuly trading this to the game store for the Wii version...I pray that one is better.
