1 out of 5 stars Good program, poor song selection   January 5, 2009
I bought this game as an addon to my singstar vol 1. While the program is improved with true duet capability it appears their song choices are lacking.... lacking a lot. A lot of the good songs from the UK version are missing, replaced by weak songs. Also missing is the ability to buy those songs that were replaced in the US version.

I am hoping that Vol 3 is better, otherwise I will just stick to american idol.

4 out of 5 stars More of the same, but that's not bad.   December 2, 2008

For those who have played any of Sony's SingStar franchise, you won't really be surprised by what is on this disc. While it is a little different than the PS2 SingStar titles which are all organized around a theme like Pop, Rock, or Country it is just like the first PS3 SingStar that gives you a mix of songs from a number of different genres. In some ways this is a good thing for those who like a number of different genres, but you always run the risk of having songs or genres you don't like being added into the mix. I know personally I found songs I didn't like or just didn't know on the game, but nothing that would cause me to not recommend it.

Also the disc supports disc swap with the other PS3 SingStar and any of the songs that you downloaded from the SingStore with the first PS3 title. The SingStore has hundreds of various songs that you can download whenever. The song mix could be better for the North American audiences, but there is a wide range of genres that you should be able to find something that suits your taste. The major flaw of a release like this, and why I rate it a four, is that with a system like the SingStore it seems unnecessary to release a new disc based game every so often when you could just upload the content to have users download as they pleased, instead of being forced songs you may not really want. Still though, if you love singing and have friends that do as well, this makes for a great party game to have fun with and with something like karaoke more songs are always welcome.

The singstar games are a good idea, the ability to buy more songs online would have made it perfect. The disc so far for playstation 3 have 30songs of which maybe you will like 2. The online store has over 300 songs of which either you dont know the artist or the songs are not one of their hits or the songs are just too old like from the 60's or early 70's.

Sony has some information on their website that with a free update you would be able to swap playstation 2 disc during game play on playstation 3 with the playstation disc but this feature does not work yet, it feels like sony is either misleading or later on in 2008 is not yet here.

You are now able to play the PS2 disc with the software for the PS3 with disc swap, this was a feature promised long ago for the singstar disc's I have not tested this yet to see how well it works I also happen to have one of the original 60GB PS3 with backward compatibility with PS2 games. With this is mind the Singstar is just only a little more appealing, you are still not able to get as downloadable content a lot of the songs from the PS3 or PS2 disc without having to buy the disc when there are only two or three songs at best that you like on the disc.

Singstar needs to include all the songs that they have currently on the online store and need to add more desirable songs.
