2 out of 5 stars Fun game, but not worth the price...   January 7, 2009
Having played all of the previous Call of Duty games, and considering how much fun I had with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, I thought that this game would be great. Let me make this simple. This game is fun, the online game play is entertaining and there seem to be no major flaws with the game. For me, World at War seems like a good mod for the Modern Warfare platform. That is that while the game is fun, it feels like they just took the Modern Warfare engine and added some new maps and skins. The game doesn't feel like it was a long process of creation or that the developers spent much time at all on the game. Comparing this game to Modern Warfare, it is nowhere near as smooth of a game. The online game play seems jerky and the single player AI seems to be fighting you the whole game. In short, I don't think this game is worth the asking price.

5 out of 5 stars CoD:WaW   December 22, 2008
Great shipping time, and I currently live in South Korea, product was here a day before estimated. Wonderful game, If you like CoD:4 or Day of Defeat you will love this game. The Collector's Edition let you start out with the FG42, a weapon that you don't unlock until level 45, a huge advantage from the get go. Even though the week of double experience is over I would still recommend buying the Collector's Edition.

4 out of 5 stars Great game! Needs bugfixes as of December 2008   December 6, 2008

Very fun sequel to the Call of Duty Series. I am an avid fan of the CoD series and this one delivers! The Single Player on PC, is slightly buggy but I am sure Treyarch will work these out. The Co-Op is amazing as well as the Multiplayer. Do not listen to the other people who complain about pricing or bugs. Bugs can be fixed.

CoD Fans - A Must Buy!

2 out of 5 stars Just buy the standard version   December 2, 2008

I got this game the day it came out, but the store only had the collector's edition. I usually don't splurge on the "collector's edition" of anything, but decided to give it a try, mainly for the special weapon and week of double XP.

First off, the tin is ok, but nothing special. The flask is a joke. As others have mentioned, it's welded shut... totally useless, even as a paperweight.

The game itself - I haven't played single player all the way through. I'd say it's average from what I've seen... nothing special there.

Most people will buy this for the multiplayer. First thing after install, you have to download a patch before you can even play online.

After that, this game is basically COD4 with a WWII theme. They did incorporate the prestige ranking this time and vehicle perks are now available, but that's most of what's new.

Finding a game online is frustrating... when you select a server from the list, the game will attempt a connection and then invariably fail. I found that if you then (re)select your online profile, then look at your ranks and challenges or customize your weapons, within a few minutes it will reconnect to the server. If you go back and try to connect to the game server, it will connect (if it's not full, etc...)
I'm sure patches to fix this are coming.... someday.

TIP: When you find a good sever, add it to the favorites. I never seem to have these problems when connecting to servers in my favorites.

As others have said, you can't customize the kit with the FG42 until you unlock it at lvl 42.

Have not gotten my codes to work... the website says invaild code.

Probably the biggest gripe I have is that respawns are not "intelligent". I will respawn and then an opponent will respawn behind me and gun me down, or I will respawn right in the middle of several opponents with no time to react. This is no different than COD4 and is more a matter of personal preference, although I don't mind so much when opponents spawn in front of me. :)

Overall, online multiplayer is good, single player is average, but the extra paid for the "collector's edition" extras was not worth it. Stick to the regular edition.

1 out of 5 stars What were they thinking?   November 18, 2008

I buy nearly all my games from Amazon (along with everything else mind you), so this review is no reflection on Amazon. Amazon has always treated me well. I've been invited to review products before by Amazon, but this is the first time I feel compelled to do so. With that said, all I can say about this game is "WEAK". Very "WEAK". I've purchased about every shooter out there (mostly from Amazon) , and I really expected more out of this. COD World at War is so scripted, so linear, and so predictable it is a shame. How do you totally screw up the weapons sounds this bad? How do you do it? This game is so linear it makes PacMan look like Far Cry (Far Cry fans will know what I am talking about). And as mentioned before by other reviewers, the flask is phony as well.

I dunno this game just reeks of "B" team effort at best.

11/19/08 An update. Ok, I was a little harsh at first. I have to give CODWaW good marks for "battle immersion effort". Forget the weapon sounds, but fix the AI and the linear bit and you got a decent game.

BTW- you can get a decent flask here:
