5 out of 5 stars Chess Mates   October 12, 2008
I realized this product was not produced any more but I did not know it would work on newer system. I was getting four copies for different grand children. I was able to get it to work on XP but I did not know if it would work on Vista. One copy went to my oldest daughter who has Vista and I have not heard if she got it to work. I have two more to send out. One goes to a son who works for Adobe so I am sure he will get it to work if I got it to work. The other goes to a daughter who is near me so I can get it to work for her.

5 out of 5 stars Running game on xp   August 14, 2007

To all those who love the game but cannot get it to run on win xp...

Don't despair!

Thanks to Donna who worked this out:

"Here's what worked for me. I went into the cd folder and found
the INST16.exe file. I left clicked on it and selected properties. Then, I clicked on the compatibility tab. I
checked the following boxes: Run this program in compatibility mode for, Windows 95, Run in 256 colors. The
rest should be unchecked.
Now, after it installs, the icon on the desktop (or under Start, Programs) should be set as above except ALL the
boxes should be checked. WOOHOO!!!! Have fun!"

5 out of 5 stars thanks, Donna ...   March 20, 2006

I have loved this game for years!!! I was so disappointed when I got my new PC that ran Windows XP. I couldn't figure out how to get it to run Chessmates. But if there's a will there's a way!
