3 out of 5 stars Wish I would have read these reviews...   August 31, 2006
I sure wish I would have read the last guy's review, before purchasing this product. I actually purchased the product, but the outside of the box says "can't duplicate" copyrighted DVD's. I also belong to an online Rental service (no, not Neflix, the other guys) and was planning to do the same thing as Mr. Sacramento (hey do you take the Sacramento commute train to the Bay Area?)

But, I returned the product, before trying what he does. I get about 5 new movies every week or so, from my online rental service company, and was hoping to save time by watching my movies on the go.

I agree, the UMD format is dead, with this type of product. I wish that Blockbuster or Hollywood video rented UMD's, but you know it will never happen. Ohh, well! Another Sony software format, down the drain!

Peace, homies!

5 out of 5 stars If you want an easy way to put dvd movies on your PSP this is for you.   July 4, 2006

I commute about an hour and a half total each work day and one of the reasons I bought my PSP was so I could watch movies during that time. PSP-UMD movies aren't much cheaper than DVDs so this product really helps.

It takes about an hour and a half to two hours for this program to rip a dvd, or 'put it in the vault' as the manual puts it. Syncing the 'vaulted' movie onto the memory stick of you PSP takes about five minutes. Most DVD movies are in wide screen and thats how they translate to the PSP. When a movie saved to stick starts playing push the triangle button, find the option to alter screen size and use it to adjust the picture so it takes up the whole screen.

Picture quality is pretty good. Im not a technophile so I cant give you specifics. The only problem Ive had with picture quality while watching movies saved to stick via this program was when the action had a lot of fast moving, small, like colored detail.

Example, during the movie Van Helsing there is a part where the characters are in a cannal, its overcast, night and raining. The whole scene is all dark shadow and gray. Rain fills the air and the drops cause the water of the cannal to ripple and bounce. During part of this scene there is a bit of pixalation. Its like the scene was compressed to much for all of the information. It only lasted for a few seconds. It has happened with only one other movie. Again it was during a scene where there was a lot of movement of small objects with a simular color. Again it didnt last that long. Over all this little glitch has hardly detracted from my enjoyment of the product.

I have a 1 gig memory stick that use to store movies on and except for the small problem described above the picture and sound has been great.

Ive tried to sync video clips Ive downloaded off of the net onto the PSP to share with the guys at work but I get a warning that its an incompatable format type thing. Like I said, Im not that computer savy and also I havent spent a whole lot of time fiddling with to convert the files.

Over all Im very satisfied with the Video Vault for the PSP. Its allowed me to get much more out of my little hand held. I have Netflix, use the Vault to put the movie on my memory stick and by the time Im done watching the movie on the bus and train the next one shows up in the mail. It really makes the commute go faster. If you want an easy way to put dvd movies on your PSP this is for you.

I would have liked for it to automatically convert video formats and the slight pixilation promlem would move me to give this a 4.5 stars if I could but really theses are small quibbles. The only other down side to Video Vault and other programs like it is that it will hasten the death of UMD movies just like the Ipod puts a dent in normal record sales. Who is going to spend $20 on a UMD movie when you can go the Netflix-to-PSP route like me?

4 out of 5 stars A well rounded suite of programs   January 16, 2006

I was sceptical about a suite of programs dedicated to a particular platform, especially given that I had already tried most of the free mismash of programs on the internet. The problem is none of the other programs are designed to work together. However this one will.

It will rip your DVD's, and simutaineously convert them into a format that your Sony PSP will reconise and play. It will even work to fit programs onto your particular size memory stick.

Then when your ready it will transfer the program to your PSP, and keep an index of recorded programs ready to transfer at your convinence.

As a gadget freak I can recomend it.

Hope this helps.
