Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nice refinement over previous games in series.   April 1, 2005
Having played Burning Horizon, I had no qualm against buying the follow-up, Rolling Thunder. It's as good or better than Burning Horizon.

The graphics seemed more efficient and less demanding of my computer, which made the gameplay much more enjoyable. The Map is still 2D, but the vehicles are very nicely done in 3D. Things seem smoother with less bugs in this recent version of the series. There's yet another new version

There are however, the same slightly vague mission objectives as in all the Sudden Strike/Blitzkrieg series, but not as bad as before and you can review each step from the menu buttons. Take the time to learn the GUI from the tutorial.

LAST MINUTE UPDATE: More games of this ilk from CDV are coming this way! Blitzkieg 2 will be out later this year. With most CDV games, they're released in Europe first and we in the U.S. do not get them for a few months after.

5 out of 5 stars Blitzkrieg as Patton!   January 15, 2005
I have enjoyed the Blitzkrieg series. There is no resource requisition like most RTS (A PLus). It is a lengthy 18 campaign series that I actually attained the rank of General before it ended (if you have played Blitzkrieg you know what I mean). The same issue I have with the series is also apparent here...the mission objectives are sometimes unclear. I think it is a translation issue. Otherwise fun and challenging. I was able to attain "elite" status on many units. This addition allows for a Huge variety of continuously "ranking" units as opposed to the few allowed in previous editions.

4 out of 5 stars An excellent World World 2 strategy game   December 5, 2004

Blitzkrieg Rolling Thunder is an excellent WW2 strategy game that focuses on real-time battlefield tactics and strategy. It follows in the footsteps of previous Blitzkrieg games to deliver truly realistic gameplay in a historical setting, this time putting you in the role of one of the greatest US tank commanders in history, General George S Patton. The game excels in its gameplay; the graphics and sound are good, the action is fast-paced and intense, and the maps and events are historically accurate (with enough bonus missions to keep things interesting ;) ). I would have given this game 5 stars if not for some issues with unit movements. The tanks and other armor seem to fumble around a bit too much, plus there's no control to move units backwards like in Codename Panzers (they sometimes go backwards when the distance is short but even then they frequently expose their weak side or back armor to advancing enemy tanks). There are also times when units actually get stuck in each other and are unable to move. However, these are small issues and overall the game plays fairly well and units are easy to manage. This game is one of the most accurate WW2 games I've played at least and gives you a taste of real warfare. I highly recommend it to any WW2 strategy gamer, especially if you loved the previous Blitzkrieg games.
