Universal Binary Available December 20, 2006 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Aspyr Studios has now released a "Universal" patch for Generals for Mac, Deluxe Edition. This patch includes binaries that run natively on Intel-based Macs, which should offer the performance that gamers would expect of the platform, rather than the performance of a low-end G3 from 1998, which is what is offered by the PowerPC versions.
I wish the Universal binaries were available directly (rather than as a patch), and I would like to see interoperability in multiplayer play with PC versions. However, the campaigns/skirmish games are fantastic. Haven't had the occasion to play it online, but as bad as the network code for the PC original was, it can't get much worse than that.
Does not work on new Macs October 4, 2006 11 out of 21 found this review helpful
WARNING: This game does not perform well on Intel Macs. I have a MacBook Pro 2.0GHz w/ 2GB of RAM and performance was terrible. Do not buy this product if you own a Mac bought in 2006 or later.
The best C&C yet April 3, 2006 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
I am glad to see a mac version. However, I have macs and pcs in my home, and the two versions do not see each other as far as network games go. So we have to play 2-on-2 on the pcs, and a separate game of 2-on-2 on the macs.
