Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
In Resident Evil 4 you'll know a new type of horror, as the classic survival-horror action returns with all-new characters, controls and storylines. We last saw Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 2 - a rookie cop in Raccoon City, fighting to stay alive. That was six years ago. Since then, government forces have managed to control the zombie threat and Leon has become a Federal agent. When the President's daughter is kidnapped, Leon tracks her to a remote, hidden fortress in Europe - where he'll relive the horror he faced six years before. Players will face never-before-seen enemies that make Nemesis seem like a kitten. You'll be wishing for the usual Resident Evil zombies!

4 out of 5 stars Good Game   October 1, 2008
The game is just as good, if not better than the console versions. It offers much better color and saturation, higher resolutions, enhanced graphics, and better sound due to higher bit rates compared to the gamecube and PS2 versions. The voice acting has been improved as well.

Sorry boys and gals alike, the mouse and keyboard dont always rule supreme in every game, face the facts. Devil May Cry 4 and GRID, two recently released excellent PC games that rely on gamepad use, Resident Evil 4 is no different, I'm glad I have an Xbox 360 wireless Gamepad For Windows and a Logitech Rumblepad 2 to enjoy these games with.

If you can't afford a gamepad, don't get RE4 or get a job and buy one. In other words, quit complaining.

1 out of 5 stars Worse shooter control ever   September 14, 2008
For the fourth installation of a series with fair quality and which gameplay never changed much, you would expect that it can't do much wrong. Not for Resident Evil 4.

The graphic technology is outdated, cut-scene video is of poor quality, and game play is very long. Normally the last issue is good, if the game is fun. Here it means long frustration.

The rooms and areas are much more grand then previous installations, plus more stuffs, more weapons, and you get total control on aiming, all are big improvements that catch up with modern shooters. But you cannot use mouse to aim. This alone dramatically reduces your aim speed and accuracy, which is critical for conserving ammo just to survives rooms after rooms of endless combat.

The manual and in-game help explains the pad buttons well, but doesn't tell you how they are mapped to keyboard. When you encounter life-or-death situations you will be asked to press 1+3 or 5+6 on screen. You have to memorise which buttons they really mean, provided you know it to begin with, and if you can't press the correct key in a second, you are dead and have to replay from last continue point, often meaning another round of intolerable shooting with keyboard.

As a shooter, the movements are also primal. No shifting, no shot on move, no crouch to dodge those unlimited arrows and throwing axe. You can do kicks, after head shots, which often require an accuracy that default control cannot provides.

Avoid this game. This is a fair series but this PC port is a half-hearted time waster.

2 out of 5 stars Resident Disappointment for the PC   September 9, 2008
Capcom did absolutely nothing to optimize this game for the PC. The only thing that you can do with the game is actually load it and play it. You can't adjust any settings, you can't change the resolution, you can't enhance the graphics detail, you can't do anything.

Basically they took the PS2 game, put it on a disk labeled "PC", and put it in a box. I recently purchased "Devil May Cry 4" for the PC from Capcom, and it is such an improvement over "Resident Evil 4" as far as options and details that I can't be bothered to play "Resident Evil 4", it's just going to sit there for the foreseeable future.

4 out of 5 stars Decent port made better with mods   July 28, 2008
The PC version of Resident Evil 4 is just about as good as the console versions. While there are mods that allow you to aim with the mouse, using a gamepad is much better. The only problem with using a gamepad is the game's deadzone (area the analog stick can move in without it affecting the game) is big and can't be changed, making precise aiming a bit harder.

With the patch and a few mods, it is the best-looking version of the game available. The low-res textures can be replaced with the ones from the Gamecube version of the game and have even more detail. Bloom and a fake HDR effect were modded into the game as well, making is look much better. Finally, those with game controllers can replace the in-game action buttons with buttons corresponding with their controllers.

The gameplay is pretty much the same as the other versions, very fun and intense. Overall, Resident Evil 4 for the PC is just about as good as the console versions, and is heavily improved with community-created mods.
