5 out of 5 stars Don't believe the nay-sayers because this game is a blast   December 1, 2007
This is, hands down, the best Vietnam War game out there. I've had this game for several years and recently reinstalled it on my PC, and it's just as fun now as it was when I first played it. Your role is that of a Special Forces intelligence sergeant who's part of Team A-216 stationed in Vietnam's Central Highlands, astraddle to the Cambodian border. The graphics aren't spectacular and the AI isn't the smartest, but the missions, maps, terrain, and overall atmosphere make this game a must-have. Your team is also very helpful and you need to work with them in order to accomplish the objectives.

Multiplayer sucks bad, but nobody plays it anyways, so don't let that discourage you. And if you think you're going to roll through the bush blazing away on full-auto with your M16, while mowing the NVA down, think again because you'll be KIA in short-order. This is not a "Rambo" 1st person shooter.

5 out of 5 stars vietcong = worth the money   June 19, 2007
viecong turned out to be one of the finest games i have played in a long time the only problems with the game that i do not like is the fact that after every mission when you go back to your camp u are confined to your bunker and the shooting range and cannot roam around the camp there are excellent missions on this game such as holding and taking hills from NVA and VC rescuing POWs and finding MIAs in fact the only mission i didnt like was the tunnel rat mission where you have to crawl thru these seemingly neverending VC tunnels which are hopelessly easy to get lost in.
After playing this game i give it these grades:
graphics 8-10
sound 9-10
gameplay 9-10
replay 8.5-10
fun 9-10

overall 9-10
great game highly recommend it peace out

4 out of 5 stars Great game for playing online!!   April 4, 2007
Great first person shooter.
Graphics are a little out dated but the game play is fun.

3 out of 5 stars Somewhat good, and Somewhat bad...   January 5, 2007
This game is unique in its on way. I did have fun playing it, and yes you full as if your there in the woods and jungles of vietnam. There are a few bugs here and there, but not enough to make you just want to stop playing it. If your in to fps shooters and like vietnam games this is an ok game to own for your PC gaming collection.

4 out of 5 stars ATMOSPHERE...   January 23, 2006

FPS & Single-Player-Fan Fun.
I'm a fan of single-player action. There's just enough story line in VIETCONG to tie the mission concepts together. Some maps have better grapics, textures, etc., than others, but the atmosphere truly prevails throughout. Although I've mentioned [story line], self preservation and survival are key. Haulin'-a**, and outdoor firefights in some, and duck-n-cover or s00pa'-d00pa'-stealth in others.
Yes, there ARE some 'glitchy' moments and a possible bug here and there that could be worked out, but the overall enjoyment of the game allows one to look past it for the other 90% of the game the developers got right... very right!
Do you want to step back to one of those classic vietnam flix' you had to see three or four times just for the atmosphere... and this time, Get Involved in the Action??!

Return to Castle Wolfenstein will will always be the classic hit in this genre' for me; take away the sci-fi monsters, amp-up the graphics engine, and Return To Vietcong! If the (minor) flaws got a patch here n' there, this game would rate TOP shelf with any FPS strategy game.

UP SIDE:
*Visual environments follow the 'story'. Moments of stealthy night-time prone crawling missions through the jungle rough with a silenced pistol and creepy cricket-speckeled quiet wading in the swamp with an occasional blast from an M-1 to pick-off a VC laying in wait with an AK47... to all-out multi platoon fire fights defending bases on either side of the barbed wired trenches.
*WEAPONS! If you've ever fired a rifle, you'll appreciate the realistic recoil, magazine count, reload times, variation of accuracy, sound, and velocity to the weapon you choose; THIS is where this game RAWX ALL OUT! No futuristic ray guns and blasters here! This iZZ oLd-sKooL GrEaSe-gUnn, M1, MP40 ThoMpsON-tYme!! ...Did I mention a KiKiNN videoversion of an M-16?!
*Characters are great! The conversations, quips, and back talk of your fellow troops was FAR better than I expected. After the first few missions, you may BELIEVE the personallities of the way-gone-cats! Totally complimentary to the fun.
*The audio tracks RULE. Period. The throw-back sounds of great late-60's rock (placed appropriately), certainly adds a special edge to help set the mood. Great MuZe!

DOWN SIDE:
*Friendly "AI" has a few issues in SOME places. If you get the 'gist of how to "follow" your point-man, instead of leading the pace as a sole-player, the game works better, and your buddies respond with little (or no) interference to the mission maps. The "personality" of these characters makes up for it! (As well; you NEED these cats for your ammo & health.)
*Continuity of textures/graphic quality. This is no DOOM3 when it come to graphics, but it's great. Some locations are peppered with foliage (necessary to environments) that lack the 'realism' which other parts of the game don't have a problem with. Still good... It's JUST A GAME, and it seems too much bump mapping & texture detail may have interfered with game play (or clipping) while crawling through the jungle. [This] does NOT take away from the ATMOSPHERE that makes the game fun.

The slowest PC I ran it on was a P4-2.53ghz w/a Radeon-9000. Anything P4 with a vid-card close to this (and above) should eat it right up, no prob'. If you're looking for that single-player mode that can really capture the imagination, you're there.
