"Trouble in Paradise" October 6, 2008 Far Cry is absolutely a gem. It lets you play the way you want to play, and even adapts to your choices. I was struggling between giving this a 4 or 5, but the sheer open-ended gameplay, incredible feeling of fighting for your life, and the Tropical setting earns this game a 5.
CONS: (NOTE: Might contain some spoilers) - Some pretty bad Voice-Acting - The Sub-Plot of "Project Farcry" and the Trigens just seemed Tacked on, with no real point, other then to give some horror elements. - Some Cheap Deaths occasionally, but nothing game breaking. - The Enemy AI is sometimes a little to good
PROS: - Have you seen the Screenshots? Its Freaking Beautiful - Seriously, This game is Gorgeous! - Open-Ended Gameplay, this means that you can fight Stealthy, from long range, guns blazing, or any other way you see fit. (I chose a Guerilla Warfare Tactic) - Vehicles are fun to control, and every vehicle chase feels like the best parts of a Rambo Movie. - The Enemy AI is Good, VERY good (I put this into the Pros also, because they are pretty advanced). - (For those who have Played FarCry) If your like me, and you heard that mutant apes were being introduced, you laughed. Moments later was I running through a hallway, screaming like a little girl as they jumped across the room, and demolished me in 3-4 hits. They give you some pretty good scares.
Now, if your asking: "How open ended is Far Cry really?" Heres your answer: I flew off of a cliff (I missed the bridge, what can I say? I hate Gravity) and landed into the water at the base of a cliff, about 30 stories down. I was expecting a game over, but I was free to swim around the cliff. Sure, I reloaded my checkpoint, but that was just spectacular.
So, if your looking for a good game that is challenging, open, and makes you use tactics, then check out Far Cry.
AWESOME!!! October 3, 2008 This is an amazing game simply because of the wonderful graphics, scenery and non sequential game play. You can choose whatever route on the Island you want, to complete your objective. The Game Save sucks as you have to reach specific points in order for the game to save. But I believe there are mods to fix this.AI is great but sometimes clunky(sometimes the characters spin wildly on a boat turret or while in the water).I used an Inspiron 6400(1GB RAM, no graphic cards) set to maximum capability to play this game.A MUST for a serious gamer.
If you buy behind the curve, this game is a must-buy September 16, 2008 I always wait a few years to buy a game so:
1. My machine can handle it
2. I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for something I might not enjoy
As far as FPS games go, this is a great addition to an already-bloated genre.
For a quick-and-dirty review: Technically and gameplay-wise, this is a great offering, with relatively few glitches or bugs and a unique and wonderful environment. Combat can be tight and focused, or intense and frantic. If you normally have "savemygameanitis" like I do and expect to be able to quicksave at any time, you can still experiment with different play styles and tactics without feeling hampered by a lack of save points.
If you haven't played this, pick it up for a bargain game that delivers a good ride.
Far Cry is a great first person shooter game September 15, 2008 This is a great game as a shooter. The story line is quite far fetched which is probably where they get the name from. I like fighting the enemy soldiers but fighting the mutants is somewhat scary and much more difficult, especially as the game goes on. The graphics are the best I have seen and the background music is great also. It is great fun to play.
Not The Best August 30, 2008 It's not great. Perhaps in its time it was but not anymore. Save your money.
