Great Fun and an Engaging Premise! November 17, 2008 "Command and Conquer: Generals--Zero Hour" is the expansion pack to the best-selling game "Command and Conquer: Generals." It is packed with loads of units, many various levels, and fun gameplay.
Pros: Great Graphics (the same as the original, which is to say, the same as EA's Battle for Middle-earth) HUGE Variety of Units (for this expansion, EA added tons of new units such as the Microwave Tank, Avenger anti-aircraft missile system, demolition truck, and others: lots of units to experiment and fight with!) FUN Levels (the variety of levels is amazing and all the different objectives you have to complete really shines through in this game: my favorite is the stealth mission at Mt. Elbrus in Russia!) Cool Units (as I mentioned above, the new units are REALLY neat and I just love playing as Col. Burton and he can sneak up behind enemies and take them out silently)
Cons: Level of Difficulty Varies (the level of difficulty can sometimes be high and other times low, it depends on what level you're playing--they should have just stuck with one level of difficulty) Too Short (I know, I know, I say that with almost every game but it's true, it should have been longer!) Too Many Units (like I said in my review of the original game, there's way too many units to choose from, so I usually just end up with the basics: tanks, infantry, aircraft and stick with them)
If you're looking for a good real-time strategy game that's set in the modern day, you can't beat this!
I love this game August 16, 2008 No matter what someone says I love this game and it is always fun for me.
expansion--not full game--add-on only May 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
awesome add-on at that turns a great game into a awesome game!!!
command an conquer generals is the game this expanstion is for---get the deluxe version of generals. oh, this expantion adds countless new units to your aursinal. even new Generals, i am a very good player, an with all armies on hard--I still would win in red alert 2- this game give you a chance to have more than just 3 contenders, the expanstion pack gives these contenders new brains, an new tallents, make the game a whole new war game even tho, when you play this game it dont feel like just a game. its that RAD!!!
Worth having, i know.. February 15, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had generals with this zero hour expansion but for some reason my zero hour disc disappeared. Maybe my 2 year old son put it in the trash i don't know but the point is that for a while i was forced to play regular generals after having the expansion and it was quite a change.
Part of the reason zero hour is such a nice addition is that generals originally was limited in some areas. China for example had only one air unit the meig. Zero hour adds a helicopter with multiple upgrade options. The USA used to have one defensive structure the patriot. Zero hour adds a cannon that can hold 4 infantry to beef up the fire power. Zero hour also adds many fine large maps of which generals has few. I'm talking about the 6 and 8 player maps that are great for long time epic wars with a buddy or 2 or 3.
The greatest feature zero hour gives you aside from the obvious additional missions are the more specialized militarys you can play with. Aside from the three main ones USA, China and the sneaky GLA you can now fight with USA airforce a specialized version or GLA chemical, or china infantry or tank. there are three specialized militaries of each; this increases your options from 3 militarys to choose from to 12. It opens up so many strategic possibilities because if you are the airforce specialization of the USA for example that means that while your air units are cheaper your ground units might be more expensive and heavy tanks are not available at all. It just gives you options and that is what we all want.
For those who like to play single player zero hour gives you an extra general's challenge campaign in which you take one specialized military and try to beat all the other 8 specialized militaries(generals) one at a time. Each matchup is fought on a map well suited to your opponent and takes on qualities of both a skirmish and a mission. Once you defeat one you move to the next and at the hardest level it is a chore. Many of the maps for the general's challenge are interesting but unfortunately not available for multiplayer.
Overall this is a great addition to a great game. As usual, always a command and conquer product that is solid all around. No other RTS series delivers such quality time and time again. I have all the C&C games except renegade and all are 5 star quality.
Great Game January 12, 2007 Very good expansion. Better than most. You get many new vehicles and planes along with AC-130 gunships.
