3 out of 5 stars Where is the version for MAC'S?   November 18, 2006

Where is the version for MAC'S? I have a MAC not Windows PC. When are they gonna make another MAC friendly version. The last time they TRIED to was "Madden 2000 (MAC)" and that was fun - though it had tons of glitches - but they have not come out with a new MAC frindly version and that sucks!

4 out of 5 stars Good on game consol, mediocre on PC   July 24, 2005

Madden is still the best football game out there. In my opinion Madden 2005 was no improvement over Madden 2004. One of the biggest annoyances is that you cannot create a team and then play with it in Franchise mode. What fun! You create players, then they sit on your hard drive doing nothing. A major disadvantage versus the 2004 version.

Another thing, this game is only designed for game consols. When you try to use it on a PC it is half as good. Most of the new controls that would make the game interesting require some sort of game pad that the average person doesn't have. They brag about great new features, but you can't use them unless you spend another twenty bucks on a special controler.

Not a bad game, but save youre money and buy the 2004 version. You'll miss nothing

3 out of 5 stars Good, But Serious Fixable Flaws.   July 3, 2005

Ok this is the best NFL football game you can buy at this point. But EA has not shown any good inovation other then in graphics. What do they need to do to make Madden 2006 a 5 out of 5? Glad you asked.

Get a real create a playbook mode!

This is the main reason I bought this game. I love football and pro-football is nice but I also like to use classic run heavy offenses, like single wing, double wing, wing T. You simply can't make those offenses in the pathetic playbook maker that EA has created. What is a real slap in the face is that the built in playbooks have plays you can NOT create with the playbook maker. Come on, at least give us the same playbook maker that the EA staff is using!

Here are the problems with the playbook maker:

The playbook maker has a limit on the formations which are contrary to the rules. On offense they won't allow you to put more then 7 men on the LOS. The Rule is you must have at least 7 men, other then that you can put all 11 up there if you wanted too, the snap would be a problem though.

They won't let you set up with an unbalanced line or move the center position on the line, which is flat out needed for some offense.

There is no option plays in madden, even the college football game has this feature, I don't think any pro offense run the classic triple option, but i bet they run some type of option! I bet some of those play action passes you see the pros run have a run option. Can not do this in madden!

You are limited on the line to run block, pass block, pull left and right and screen left and right. You should be able to tell your linemen to down block or bypass the guy in front and pick a linebacker for trap plays, speaking of traps you cannot have your lineman trap block, they are after all in the free blocking zone, so why limit their options!

You cannot put running backs in motion, which is just stupid.

A big problem is you can not line up a back outside the tackles and have him get the ball (hand off or pitch). Never mind that reverses count on this, and wings get the ball all the time in some offenses! You can select a preexisting reverse or end around and edit it, but you still can not send your guy in motion.

You can not have a direct snap to a running back, which is also lame and prevents you from making single wing type plays, unless you happen to have Vick as your QB.

You can not make Play action passes with the editor you have to use one from a playbook then modify it which is a pain.

EA how about giving us a decent play editor, if your looking for new things to do with this football game. I would much rather have create any play you can immagine then the lame, create a fan feature.

Ok, that is problem number 1.

There are other problems.

IF you create your own team, you cannot run them in franchise mode! What a rip off, you could do this in Madden 2004. A step backward.

You should beable to change the positions of your guys anyway you like, If i want to put vick on defense I should beable to do that, If i want to put brady on the O-line I should be able to do that, If want to make a DT a FB I should be able to do that! Why limit us!

The commintary gets old quick and is sometimes just flat wrong!
Like if you run off tackle and do not even get touched by a defender madden will say something like, "He got in behind those big offensive lineman and put his shoulder down for the extra yardage." Which really doesn't describe what happened. I expected bad commentary because all sports games have repetitive commentary, so that is not a big knock against this game. You can turn commentary off, but you should also be able to set it to minimum commentary where they comment every once and a while but are usually silent. I would be happier with a sports radio type commentary, "Dillon with the carry, 4 yard gain on the play" or "Ball caught by number 33 faulk, for an 11 yard gain" That type of stuff.

A good football game, but I have the feeling that EA is holding back on obvious things so they can add improvements slowly and milk us for more money Year after Year.

Do I have to wait until madden 2009 before I get the awesome new create a playbook freature that actually lets you create a good playbook! EA wake up, people will buy the new game because of the upadated rosters and stats. Do not let another company come in and steal your thunder with a really good leap forward football game!

5 out of 5 stars This is a great game   February 18, 2005

Madden NFL has bested all previous games the graphics are so increadible you can see the glint of stadium lights on the players helmets. The franchise element of the game has been brought to a whole new level with the new NFL draft is the best I've ever seen. This the BEST NFL game I have ever played.
