Perfection December 22, 2008 This game is perfect. I loved playing this game so much that I almost wanted to beat it twice. The games boards and graphics vary from playing in the streets, to going to many different parts of hell, to riding in a car, train, tank, to graveyards, to flashbacks, to restaurants, to demons on your arms working in your favor in different ways, to demons you can summon and have fight as a separate character on your behalf while you play too. This goes down as one of the funnest games I have ever played. You play as a member of the mafia (so the story line stays serious; as it should be) who is trying to save himself. Other games I'd give 5 stars too liked Drakes Uncharted, The Condemned 2, Jericho, Silent Hill, Bioshock.Since I'm not going to give a play by play review of the game maybe the games I mentioned help you understand my rating system.
Really good December 21, 2008 Im really happy with the product for the price i got it was more than ok!!! keep it that why amazon!!! ur doing great!
The Darkness November 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a casual gamer, and usually play for an hour or two before I get bored and move on to something else. This game had me hooked. The controls are easy to learn, and the game kinda leads you around to where you need to be. I've just beat the Easy mode and now will start the normal mode to see how bad I really am. I have not played the multiplayer mode.
The game was really fun to play. The storyline may seem typical for expert gamers. Go there, retrieve this, kill that. But the ease of play was great for me.
I thought the main story line, as a mafia hitman was really good. I also thought *spoiler* that the second story of the evolution of the Darkness powers was really good. However, it seemed that they did not mesh the two ideas together really good. It could have been two distinctly seperate games. I hear this was based off of a comic book series, so readers of that might have the 'missing pieces'.
The Darkness powers were all fun to use, the Darklings especially! Quite enjoyed the banter of the kamikaze!
So, for overall funness and storylines, I give it 4 of 5. If they had done just 'something' more integrating the two storylines, this woulda been a 5 star games. Definitely worth the current asking price of $20.

I was looking forward to this game so much. Its dark, its gritty, and its creative. Turns out, that's about all it has.
The graphics are good enough. If I had to say anything bad about it I guess it would be that it seems to really lack textures. The lighting is solid enough, as is the frame-rate and I didn't notice any pop-in. People mention that there's a bunch of glitches but I didn't really see any. I saw really bad design choices, but no genuine technical faults.
The soundwork is solid. The voice acting is actually well done and the sound effects are fine, nothing specil but not bad either.
The game-play and story are where this game truly falls flat. Some kind of demon possesses a mobster with an incredibly horrible haircut. The developers don't give any reason for it, you just happen to be possessed. The storyline is your average mobster flick, you were screwed over, go get your revenge. Your character's movement is horrible, it feels as if you're sliding around all over the place. The aiming is sloppy and all over the place. If you're aiming for someone's body, be prepared to unload a couple of clips before they die, but that's ok because it seems as if your crosshairs automatically go for the head. Your demon powers are by far the best part of the game, but they're extremely unbalanced and over powered. THe developers used very archaic level design. Its very straight forward, and several times there's no going back. If you mess something up, you may have to load a previous save rather than just continue because you don't have your demon power saved up to do a particualr thing. Really, really old-school level design, and not in the good way.
This game had a lot of promise, but it failed me in just about every possible way. Its really too bad, but you're much better off playing one of the many other shooters available.
this was a sick game people! November 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I totaly enjoyed the different style this game had on an fps. the fact of having two darklings on your back and sent them out to rip someones hart out is just amazing! loved this game back when it came out. Nice and twisted fps totaly should get it!
