 Most comfortable headphones I've ever worn June 21, 2008
These headphones are amazingly comfortable. I had another set of "gamer" headphones that had the same style around-ear speakers and I found them to be very uncomfortable after a half hour or so. These headphones, however, I can wear for hours on end with no discomfort whatsoever.
A few additional pros:
- The retractable mic is very nice - I feel kind of silly playing a game with no voice interaction and having a big old boom mic sticking out in front of me, so being able to tuck it away when I don't need it is useful
- The cord is long and high-quality, and the fact that the longest part of it acts as an extension (the cord attached to the headphones is actually rather short - 3 feet or so, but it comes with a longer extension cord) is handy for plugging in other audio devices like my speakers from time to time. As to the quality I really like that the cord is wrapped in fabric - it feels much more durable than the rubberized cords most other devices have.
- Sound quality is very nice - better than any other headphones I've used.
Cons:
- The mic came through very quietly at first - I had to tweak all of my audio settings in Windows toward boosting the mic gain in order to make it audible, and even then in some games it's extremely quiet.
All in all I recommend this headset strongly.

I bought two pairs of these about a year ago (one for home, one for work), and since then both of them have broken.
The first one had a wire break internally so that half the time only one headphone worked. Later, the joint connecting to the bridge snapped off near the working headphone.
The second one now has a broken wire, but _INSIDE_ the bridge (how does that make sense?). I still have the bridge component to the other one, so hopefully swapping it will give me one working pair of headphones and one very broken pair.
Other than the durability issues, this is a great headset. For $80, though, I expect things to last longer than a year. I give 2/5 stars because things that are broken dont even get a chance to be reviewed in the other areas.

The Steel Series V2 headset is an excellent gaming accessory. I use it for hours on end and its very comfortable, and lightwieght. The microphone has good quality, a major upgrade from the last Steel Series headset. And the sound quality is superb, the best you will get for this price. I recommend this headset for any gamer that has a working head and likes to use it for gaming.

I purchased the headset about 3 months ago. Great sound, great fit. The microphone is perfect for when you just want to listen and not talk, putting it back into the headset was genius. I play wow, and its perfect for what im doing, i also play call of duty 4 and it works great for that as well.
The real reason i wanted to put this up is because i did have a problem with the cord. Not the manufactures fault, but mine. I was vacuuming my computer room and got the cord stuck in the vacuum. Now the cord is not just a plastic snag-snap cheap cord. It's got real fabric wrapped around it, perfect for people who get their cord snagged all the time. But in this case the vacuum had won. The headset still worked fine, with a little humming in the background, but i could tell if i had caught it on something else I'd be worthless for my next raid. So i emailed steelseries to find out how i could buy a replacement. It was just the extension that had gotten damaged. They told me to save my money for another item, and they would mail me a new extension. WoW! I promised that I would give this company good name. So i decided to put it up where I had looked to find a good set.
I promise you, even before the wire issue(although it did make me put up this review). If you want a good headset, either get these or the 4h's. Those are are cheaper, but people say they word just as well. You won't be disappointed.

omg omg omg could this headset be any better? i think not!
The bass on these is just incredible, the response is unsurpassed.
Whether these are for gaming, VoIP communication of hardcore audiophile geek out this is the headset for you!
