More than 10 years after its release still da Bomb!!! May 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Iv'e been around videogaming quite some years now and i must say NBA Hangtime still, more then ten years after its release, is the best game iv'e ever played! Real live characters such as Dennis Rodman (with changable haircollors!) Patrick Ewing and Gary Payton are displayed hilaricaly realistic but still (deu to the just a little to big heads) caricutaristic.
Next to the real live players there is also the option to create your own character!!! Take your pick out of diferent figurine's like a yellow chicken, a green marsian or even a real live wherewolf! Then pick a nickname out of a list with hilarical name's like cuckoo, spanky or mad dog! Adjust your specialties and abilities (which increase after winning more game's) and game on!!!
Gameplay is fast and fun. No gamerules, foulcalling and freethrows here but an hilarical over the top 2 on 2 batlle for the ball complete with shoving over opponents, alley oops, double dunks and teamfire!!!
The ingame play by play comments by Bulls announcer Neal Funk are just as hilarical as the rest of the game with calls like "get that outer here!!!", "What a disaster!!!", "Is that legal???" and "What was heee thinking???"
On the overal soundpart there is not much to complain either. A booming rap presented by M-Dogg together with all sorts of friendly little samples during game- and braketime make this game a joy not only for the eye but also the ear!!!
All together i have to say that after more than ten years this game, deu to a magical mix off components, still hasn't been topped!!! Not only with 4 friends together this game stands for hours of fun but even alone its good for a rimrockin time!!!
B.t.w. this game is rumoured to be out for Live Arcade soon, we could compete online then. They'll be doing us all a big favour!!!
It's okay. April 9, 2006 This is a revew for the N64 game, not the PS1 game. The N64 version isn't available on amazon.
NBA Hangtime is not nearly as good as NBA Jam for a few reasons. First, the weird graphics are pretty annoying. They are the actual pictures of the player's heads, and the bodies are animated. It's very strange. There is also only one camera view; which is the "broadcasting view" like you see on TV. Here's my review.
Graphics: 6/10. These are not good much at all. Like I said, they are very strange and different graphics, and that isn't a good thing. They are really quite ugly.
Sound: 5.5/10. Mediocre at best. The announcer is annoying and the music being played has just as bad quality as the rest of the game.
Control: 6/10. They do not respond well at all. If you play against the computer, you have one computer guy on your game you can somewhat control and not control. This game has 2 on 2 basketball and it is just really frustrating how you just can't control both players entirely.
Fun: 6/10. This game has good stats if you have a memory card, and you can also create your character with quite a few different choices for your body and what not. This is a game that you should not buy unless you are a hardcore unrealistic basketball game. This is the NFL Blitz of basketball, but it is really not good. This game with a friend is a lot better than going solo. I got this game for $3.99 at EB Games, and I'm glad it didn't cost anymore.
6.3/10
( Note again: This is the N64 version review of this game, not PS2. )
