worst game April 3, 2004 you cant pick up any weapons and their is hardly any commentary and you dont see the wrestlers come out, all you see is their picture. I would avoid this game.
Age and lack of features doesn't make this a bad game August 22, 2003 WCW Nitro is one of the older wrestling games available for PlayStation, and while the game does not have a wide range of features to recommend it today, I have to say that I still quite enjoy playing this game. I would describe the game as the equivalent of a demo version of WCW/NWO Thunder - the look and feel is similar, but a lot of nifty features are not available. There are no weapons available for you to pick up outside the ring, each wrestler is introduced with nothing more than a picture, there's almost no customization options for each wrestler, and about the only vocalizations you hear are the announcers identifying a wrestling move or counting the seconds in a pin attempt. Still, you do get your choice of a wide range of wrestlers, each of which has his own special moves. I can best express my appreciation of this game by describing my experience of playing as the Nature Boy himself, the living legend Ric Flair. One of Flair's trademark moves is the old cheap shot in which he grabs his opponent around the neck, turns around, and delivers a most effective kick to one of his opponent's more sensitive areas. After dishing out a couple of these moves, I can sling my opponent against the ropes and deliver a patented Nature Boy chop across his chest. Once the guy is down and all but out of energy, I can slap the Figure Four Leg Lock on him and make him cry like a baby as he submits. There is nothing like ending a match with the Figure Four. To really be Flair, though, you have to do more than simply beat the other guy to a pulp; you have to strut a little. Before the Figure Four, you can have Flair do a little showboating, and that makes the win all the more satisfying. Once the match is over, Flair does some of the strutting he is famous for and delivers a few Whoos to the crowd. How can this not be fun, no matter how old the game is? There are certainly better wrestling games available these days, but WCW Nitro still manages, despite its several undeniable weaknesses, to deliver some pretty good thrills for this gamer.
One of the Worst Wrestling Games EVER November 12, 2001 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
(Bad) graphics, limited match options, no create-a-wrestler mode, and confusing gameplay. That's what WCW NITRO brings to the table, folks. This game has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Don't waste your money. If you want to play a fun wrestling game on your Playstation, buy the first or second Smackdown game. This one just isn't worth your time.
One of THQ's Weaker Efforts September 7, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After playing WCW Nitro in it's entirety I've come to one conclusion; this is a bad game. THQ, usually known for quality games, really show that this is one of their beginning efforts on the playstation. So many problems keep this game from being a top notch wrestling game. But let's start with the positives. There are a ton of hidden characters. Okay, that's it for the pros. The flaws in this game however are abundant. The graphics are way behind the curve and make the game seem childish. It looks as if you are using a cartoon as a wrestler. It isn't realistic at all. To add to the childish graphics is the childish gameplay. This game is just a bunch of mindless button mashing and that is what you have to resort to to makes it easy. There is also a serious lack of depth to this game. You only have a smal amount of modes to select fromwhich makes the game boring after you've beaten it. This creates a lack of replay value. The only thing keeping you coming back are the cooky hidden characters you unlock. The only reason I didn't fail this game completely is because of the hidden characters and the fact that it was created in 1998 ,but that is still no excuse in light of the fact that such excellent games such as Resident Evil 2 and Metal Gear Solid were released that year. If you HAVE to play this game, rent it before you purchase it. You'll see what I mean.
An EXCELLENT WCW Game August 5, 2000 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this game. I remember at my birthday 2 years ago I got this as a present. It was my first wrestling game and is the reason that I got more. It has most of the authentic rings, the wrestlers look good, the rants at the selection screen are great, and if you win the belt with a wrestler, it shows a pretty cool FMV of the wrestler cleanin' house on Nitro. I admit that when I first got it that I had trouble pulling off the wrestler's special moves. The key is button speed. You have to push the buttons pretty fast. I suggest trying a submission hold first like Sting's Scorpion Death Lock or Ric Flairs Figure 4. Then, the wrestler you're fighting won't be fighting back. This is a great game. It's a must buy.
