4 out of 5 stars Most fun I had in a racing game   December 19, 2000
At first there was High Stakes, which I loved, but now I beated all the tournaments and special events with gold trophies, I was a little bored out. When I first bought V-Rally 2, it was just a waste of time and money, I was playing High Stakes instead and V-Rally 2 was just collecting dust. Then I tried it again, this time it was much different, it was much more fun than I thought. I tried all modes, arcade, championship, etc. and when I was racing with a friend, it was the most fun I had in a racing game! The game is pretty tight! Recommend to all you racing fans out there. EA does a wonderful job with it's racing sims!

4 out of 5 stars Now this is cool racing !   August 5, 2000
When I first started playing this, I was bothered by the tendancy of the car to flip whenever hitting angled terrain. Once I learned to drive however, this game hit the spot for my racing hunger. I love racing, I can't get enough of it on PC or PSX, and this is #1 for PSX for me (Tread Marks is my PC fave right now). With the wide selection of cars and tracks, this can't be beat for a wide flavor of racing. On top of the racing variety, there are the types of gameplay. You can go arcade for that "I just need a racing fix" feeling, or play Tournament, head-to-head, or World Champion. World Championship has the best depth as you actually have to perform repairs on your car, and you pay for those repairs with racing minutes, which effect your world ranking.

This game is what PSX is all about.

4 out of 5 stars So close to what's-his-name it's uncanny   July 31, 2000

If you're looking for a rally racing experience on PSX, you've got many choices, but the top 2 are definitely Colin McRae Rally (from Sony) and this, V-Rally 2 from EA. My advice, don't get both, as it is absolutely bizarre how many similarities there are between the titles. I won't go into detail, but it's obvious that the 2 titles knew of each other's existence.

The graphics are bigger and bolder in VR2, and the action is faster. You will actually see other cars on the track and race them rim to rim, unlike CMR where racing is done strictly by stage, without ever seeing other cars on the road. VR2 is more difficult, though not impossible. And VR2 has one feature that seperates it from CRM: a track creator. Getting bored with the same old tracks? Just make your own. Sorta takes one back to Excitebike on 8-bit NES. CRM seems to be more of a simulation, and deeper than VR2, with many things to learn, in addition to some Gran-Turismo-esque "license tests".

And that might be the deciding factor, are you more inclined to play an arcade-style rally game (a la Sega Rally) or do you want a game that has less flash, but more substance (a la Gran Turismo). Both games are tremendous (yeah, I have both) but unless you're a true rally racing freak, you could easily settle for one of the two. The choice is yours.

5 out of 5 stars V Rally2   June 22, 2000

I have all the EA Racing games. This is the best yet. Most real feel, best ARCADE play. I got this in June of 2000. Before this program i got Porsche Unleashed in April. As my skill with Unleashed progressed, so did my pleasure playing the game. Since i got V Ralley 2, i have not even looked back at Unleashed. There is no comparison. V Ralley is one of the most FUN games i have ever played. CONGRATS to EA!

4 out of 5 stars The best rally racing game for the PSX.   January 14, 2000

I didn't like the first V-Rally much because of how easily your car flips over or spin out, but V-Rally 2 is a big improvement over the first game. The gameplay is still challenging and if you're not careful, you'll still find your car flipping over, but it's not as bad as in the first game. Graphics are way better, and with an Arcade mode, Trophy Mode, and Championship mode to play through, as well as a good bunch of cars to choose from and unlock, this game will keep you coming back again and again. Gameplay is improved as success races depend on how well you swerve your car in the turns rather than how well you use the parking brake from the first game. Car and driving options are great so you can adjust how the car performs to your liking and you'll find that V-Rally 2 offers plenty more camera views than most other driving games out there including V-Rally 1.

My only gripe is that I find the tracks a bit too narrow which doesn't allow me to drive all out. Expect to slow down quite a bit around turns and avoiding crashing into opponents, but on clear straightaways you can get some really good speed.

Overall, a great game for racing game fans and definitely one to pick up.
