Not Good May 18, 2007 I have used this for over an year. Will charge only few batteries, not even the ones that came with it.
Trouble with this charger November 17, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this new and it would refuse to charge the 4 batteries that came with it. Looks like it is very picky about what it can charge and not charge.
Excellent batteries and a great charger. July 18, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've had this for just a couple of weeks but I use it a LOT and I'm impressed. Aside from my digital camera using AA's, I've also got my mouse, keyboard, game controller, and several other items that run on AA so I'm really putting it to the test.
PROS:
Definitely does exactly what it says - charges the batteries in 15 minutes and the charge lasts just as long as when I used my overnight charger. It has a built in fan to keep the batteries cool during this rapid charge.
The external power supply means you don't have to plug the charger itself directly into an outlet - you can just plug the power supply into an outlet and run the cord to the charger, and have the charger sitting right on your desk or wherever. That's probably not a big deal to some people, but my previous charger has to be plugged directly into an oulet and is so clunky that it tends to fall out. This one keeps my batteries sitting right on my desk near me and looks a lot nicer too.
The Energizer batteries that come with it are the best I've ever used when it comes to rechargeables. They're 2200mAh and definitely hold a charge well / long lasting, but I also purchased some 2500mAh Energizers separately which last even longer on a charge.
CONS:
The spring-loaded mechanisms that hold the batteries in place is a little cumbersome. It's really not too bad, but I have fumbled with it a few times when inserting the batteries. This is not a big problem by any means, I'm just being picky for the sake of the review. The cooling fan is a little bit noisy during the 15 minutes while charging, but only if you're in a REALLY quiet room. If you have the TV on or any other kind of ambient sound in the background you won't notice the fan at all, but I thought I'd mention it to be thorough.
I might have given this 4.5 stars if that was possible (based on cost and the two very minor "cons" above), but since that's not an option and it deserves more than a 4 I went with 5.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
I've seen one or two people on the web mention their dislike for the "bad battery" feature, and I honestly can't see the problem after I took this to task myself. I have tons of rehcargeable batteries piled up here at my desk and I've tried them all in it. The only ones it treated as "bad" and would not charge were a few that I've had for well over a year and have been recharged well over their documented lifetime of 1000 charges. Quite honestly, this charger just confirmed for me what I already knew - the lifetime of these few batteries was beyond spent and it's not a good idea to keep using them anyway, because even if I force them to charge they won't last long and it's time to dispose of them properly before they begin to leak/damage. But hey, some of that is just my opinion.
SUMMARY:
Can't believe I let the price stop me from doing this sooner. Never again will I be using my cheap charger or generic batteries. This is already paying for itself, if not monitarily, then in terms of time and (lack of) frustation.
I definitely recommend this product.
OK charger February 13, 2006 16 out of 24 found this review helpful
This charger is ok because it is really fast, and the batterys it comes with are great. The only problem is that it has this stupid good battery bad battery detector and will refuse to charge a "bad" battery. This is terrible when you have 4 batteries for something that will take 4 batteries and it will only charge 3. It needs a bad battery disable switch. I dont care if its bad or not, I want it charged. It can be tricked by putting the bad battery in something, use it up a little, and put it back in and sometimes it will charge it. Very frustrating. Charging a battery shouldnt be this hard. Works great when you have perfect batteries.

I couldn't believe it! It actually _fully charges_ your AA or AAA batteries in 30 minutes or less! On my old energizer charger, which I had been using for many years, it took 24 hours (it's a timed charger.)
This quick charger uses trickle charging - that means a continuous low current charge is passed through the battery. The pros of this charging process:
1) The rechargeable battery can not be damaged by overcharging.
2) You can leave the batteries in the unit to maintain the charge until you're ready to use them (a documented feature from the user guide.)
Here's more pros (not related to trickle charging:)
3) The channels (battery slots) work independently. On my old charger, I had to put the batteries in pairs - not on this charger; it allows you to charge a battery in any of its channels.
4) This is a smart charger. If your battery is already partially charged, it takes less than 30 minutes to get fully charged. I find that I can "refresh" my batteries in about 5 - 10 minutes.
5) Each channel has a red LED and blinks to indicate a faulty battery.
6) My batteries charged on this charger last longer than when they were charged by my old charger. I have 1850 mAH AA and 600-700 mAH AAA batteries. I use them on my high-drain iAudio MP3 player and Canon camera - and I couldn't be more pleased with the results that this product delivers.
I should point out that this charger charges only NiMH; it doesn't charge NiCad (Who uses NiCad anymore anyway?)
Yes, this is the same charger offered by tigerdirect and target - just so you know cuz Amazon doesn't have a picture for it. As of this writing, you save a buck if you buy from Amazon. Plus, there's free shipping ;)
This is the fastest quick charger in the market for NiMH batteries. Rayovac has one that does 15 minutes, but it will take only Rayovac batteries. The charger itself is very light and really cool-looking. IMO, this is THE BEST charger!
