Not Fun June 12, 2008
This game is incredibly linear with pretty much only one way to do things. In a stealth game that means doom in my opinion.
Graphics are fine but that is really all it has going for it. The AI are completely unpredictable as people have said. Not in a, oh they're acting human unpredictable, but as in one person may be standing right next to you and not see you, while a person far away will be shooting at you.
I find that the storyline is based around whatever level designs people decided on, rather then levels based around storyline. For example, the first level the guy directing you is telling you to stay off the street because you want to avoid the cops. But you really can't even get to the streets, they're all blocked off by gates. Then later on he takes it back after you travel rather randomly through a building and tells you you can go where ever. BUT you can only go on the streets due to the limitations of the game.
And what is with the random ziplines?
If you like stealth games I would seriously recommend purchasing either Thief 1 or Thief 2, or both. I cannot vouch for three as I have never played it, but the first two are pure gold in stealth. Thief Bundle: Thief 1 and 2
Not for Everyone February 7, 2008 I normally don't review a game before I've completed it, but, a quarter through, I feel the need to write a few words about Splinter Cell, a game which, for me, requires too much stealth. I've been hearing great things about this shooter for years, but now that I'm playing it I just don't understand what all the fuss was about. So far--and again, I'm hoping my lack of enthusiasm will vanish by Cell's half-way point--I'm just bored: I need explosions, blood, and gadgets galore, accompanied by an enthralling score that is a bombastic as the explosions. What I don't need is crouching and crawling and creeping around while trying to avoid what I want most: action, confrontation, and destruction. If anything, this game, so far, has made me appreciate even more a game I loved from the instant I pressed "start": Project Snowblind, an action-packed, though underrated extravaganza of bullets, bombs, great graphics and terrific music. Again, I'm hoping this review is premature; I'm hoping that at some point during the game Sam Fischer will stand erect, take aim and let the bullets fly...I'm hoping.
This is one heck of a fun game... October 16, 2007 First things first...if you want a slash-and-run game, this is not what you're looking for. Splinter Cell is obviously a secret-agent-who-gets-things-done kind of game. The storyline is interesting, but not terribly original. What is fun is watching the 'News' in the Splinter Cell world.
The action in this game is similar to Metal Gear Solid 2. Even though this not as advanced as MGS2 as ar as character moves go, it still has plenty of cool moves. Guns are sparse, but you learn to love the ones you get. Whenever you's out of bullets, you can still knock out your enemies by shooting them with your sticky-cameras.
All in all, a very fun game.
Takes Some Getting Used To, But Really Good! (Honest Review) February 7, 2007 I have to say, I was really skeptical about this series. I mean, a whole game based on stealth? But hey, I figured I would give it a shot. Needless to say I was not dissapointed. Rather, I was pleasantly surprised with the results.
Right off the bat, this game takes some getting used to. Not just the controls, but the way in which the game works. I myself am so used to running into a room and shooting everything in sight. This game simply does not allow this kind of gameplay. You must sneak around, do things quietly, and be sure not sound too many alarms or your mission is aborted and you lose. Some missions you can kill your enemies, other times you must simply knock them out. Either way, you are constantly concealing you actions by hiding bodies and keeping to the shadows.
At first, I found this gameplay to be very frustrating. But after about 5 hours of playing, I started to get the "hang" of it. From that point on, I became addicted. There are so many replayability options, so many different ways to complete a mission, that the game never loses its fun. The gadgets and weapons that are available are also very cool and fun to use. You may need to look at a walkthrough now and then, but other than that the game is basically trial and error.
I loved this game so much that I decided to buy the second game in the series, Pandora Tomorrow. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the dated graphics and the need for improvement in other areas. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a different, yet extremely enjoyable game, look no further. Splinter Cell is a great game.
Not very fun, but cool on story mode! December 6, 2006 Well, Tom Clancy first made the books, now video games? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Halo Combat Evolved & Rainbow six were a knock-out at the time. This game was cool on spying... really good on spying
