5 out of 5 stars Time to PUMPED & PRIMED!   November 30, 2006
I own this game from winning a contest, and this game ROCKS! You will get PUMPED & PRIMED when you play this game. Play as three of the main chacters, like:
This spiky haired kid, Spike (hence the name, Spike), The Professer, his granddauter, Natilie, or other characters like Casi, a Pipo Monkey, Team Monkey, the previous tornament champion, Helga.... or the mysterious monkeys, the Pipotrons.
As you are playing as one of these characters, you'll get fan mail and gifts from.... well, monkeys; and also they will be your "friend", which I mean that they will do funky moves to help you in combat in the tornament!
You will do funky moves, crazy attacks, and have wild fun in combat. See monkeys attacking by flying out of a cannon, another monkey with a machine gun, RC Cars exploding, and Much, Much More!
Like I said before, IT IS TIME TO GET PUMPED AND PRIMED!

4 out of 5 stars Too lazy to register so sue me why don't you.   October 4, 2005

No I am over 13 if you're wondering. I just hate registering a lot of times...

Now onto the game. Truthfully, the only Ape Escape game I've played is the first one. So I was delighted to see Spike, in cell-shaded no less, come back in this game.

The game sheds the adventure idea this time however, and takes on as Spike and his friends go to the Virtual World to take part in a tournament. The tournament consists of stages where you either race to end, beat others up with your Stun Clubs, blow the others up with R/C cars, use the boats to the end of the stage and so on. It's like mini-games.

Gameplay is fine, controlling isn't too hard after a while and you utilize both analog sticks. Camera tends to space out behind or give you an omniscient point of view.

It's fun in the beginning but can get rather tedious even with the boss fights with you going doggedely forward to get all the bonuses which you get from completing certain standards.

Speaking of bonuses, for you people out there who are obsessed with 100% completion, I heartily say you'll be on this game whether you like it or not. There's an assortment of clothes, new versions of your gadgets, videos capturing the happenings within the game, monkey partners, and yeah. There's a myriad of them mostly because you can choose between, what was it, 8 characters? Most of whom appeared in Ape Escape. 8 characters, a lot of stages in which you need to get at least 3 things from one stage equals a lot to be put bluntly.

Though I'll say, one of the little tidbits you'll love are the two episodes/interludes for each of the characters. Some are anime done and are wonderful to see. Some are comical especially when Spike accidently tries to catch Natalie in his net by mistake. They're all done in unique ways such as Spike's episodes look like someone scribble-colored him to match his personality, Natalie's is perky, neat, and colorful. Professor gets an interview with a real live person (green screen) in a manner to show his technological stand and so on.

You have to love the monkey's interludes though. The Pipo Monkies consist of real people who wears a full costume of the Pipo Monkeies (think Disneyland and those 'Mickey' people) and go around doing things. Adorable in every aspect.

Graphic-wise, this game is beautiful in all its cell-shaded wonder. Spike, Natalie, Professor, Cassie, Spector (Who you know pwns you) are all nice to see. The voices are nicely done also. I'm ignorant in who their VAs were but Spike did not sound like Yugi as people had said in Ape Escape 2. In anyway, he sounded cute and childish.

The plot this time around is rather bland just to anyone who's concerned. Summarizing the plot isn't anything spectacular. It's the whole 'There's more to it than it seems.'

I know I ramble.

Conclusion, it's a nice game if you want to see Spike again -murmurs like I did murmurs- but it hardly lives up to Ape Escape standards. However, the genre to this one differs from its predecessor so in its own way the game is worth a try. But if you're looking for the same gusto that you felt when you played Ape Escape, look away unless you want the nice extras and see Spector and his touching reunion to his monkies, which doesn't turn out the way he wants it to. A good extra if you're missing the old crew, but not worth it if you don't have the patience.
