Terrible UI; not user-friendly; horrible overall... June 8, 2008 0 out of 11 found this review helpful
Ok, I have spent the last couple of hours trying to figure out the UI of this game. Perhaps I am not a computer freak, but I have played quite a few online games and have never seen anything less user-friendly. It should NOT be difficult to attack, run, adjust camera angle, etc. The map feature is ridiculous as well. Overall, this has been the worst game I have ever played (and that is saying something). Unless you are looking for an old-school MUD experience, I'd advise playing something more worthwhile. There has been incredible progress in the world of gaming and FFXI missed out somehow. Incredible, considering the wonderful experience FF games usually bring to the player.
I'm only writing this to save someone the hassle and frustration of attempting this disaster. Solitaire is more entertaining.
Great Buy January 25, 2008 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Great buy! Great Online game. I have been playing since 2003 and I have not been everywhere in the game yet. One of the best MMO's on the market to date. Thousnads upon thousands of players play. You will have no problem finding someone to play with on FFXI. The in game mentors are very friendly & they help you learn the game. This game haves more depth than World of Warcraft. I recommend this game to anyone that wants to get into a solid, stable, and developed MMO.
Great game if your going to start ff on ps2. December 25, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great way to start the ff saga on the internet, and if your about to start the game its great. Its also really cool if you just want it for all the 4 expansions for the price of one.
HDD requred for PS2 users, PS3 fixed w/system update 2.10 December 4, 2007 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
It was really nice of Square Einx to release the original PS2 installs again after 3 years of not having them in print. This allows new players to come into the game by installing the game on a PS3 now that system update 2.10 has fixed the install issues. I'm pretty suprised that Sony fixed this now, but this won't work with the 40 gig becase it's not backwards compatable.
I'm really updating my review because of the new PS3 firmware update. The game istelf is great and it works even better when you have friends along. The Wings of the Goddess expansion is included and so far it has some potentally fun features(although it takes SE awhile to add everything). The best feature off FFXI over other MMOs is the ability to swap classes on the fly with few penatlies other than the fact that all of them start on level one.(you can be a lvl 30 warrior and a lvl 30 WHM on the same character...no real need to make more charaters like oh say...World of Warcaft!)
This collection really great for new players and I hope to see you on my server. Be warned that these disks will not work on the thin models of the Playstation 2 since you can't install a Hard drive in them. Other than that used PS2 hard drives are available on ebay...just make sure you get the HDD utility disk!
