3 out of 5 stars Nostalgic First Person Shooter   October 29, 2008
Not the most extravagant first person shooter... But for a fan of the Robotech series, looking for nostalgic fun, I find the game quite enjoyable. Yes, there are games with better graphics, but the general action and story I think are more than acceptable.

4 out of 5 stars This Game   January 28, 2008
I have played a lot of games. Sometimes more than I can count. I have seen many shooter games in the stores. A lot of shooters are mindless killing without purpose or good design. This game has a story line. Now, I am not a Robotech Fan. I have never seen the show or played any of the other games. But I will tell you this. I have played this game and beat it in less than six hours. It was... fun. I liked the dark "mysterious" game play. I liked the cyclones. But the one thing that sparked my interest was imagination. I mean look at the invid. They are weird looking. Actually I liked the way they looked and fought. The enemies were a little easier than I liked, however I was able to take them out in a few easy eye shots. Any idiot who just sprays out ammunition is ,of course, going to run out of ammo. I will tell you this, you do not need anything except for the gallant. The invid leave behind ammunition for this weapon its that simple. The graphics were medium. The gameplay was good. The continuous flashbacks and comlink communications made me keep playing to find out what would happen next. Overall I would say it is a great game. I don't think a game needs killer graphics or amazing super combos or mega ammunition scattered around. I think a game needs to be challenging and fun. And I also think that anybody that needs stupid cheat codes or make the game too easy should grow up!!

1 out of 5 stars Terrible   December 20, 2005

This game is terrible, Robotech Battlecry was a better game than this. The visual quality was bad, the gameplay was uninspiring. I am a big Robotech Fan, watched it as a kid on TV, I own the TV series but this game doesn't live up to it. Its incredibly boring. If you are looking for a shooter move onto to anything else. If you want a Robotech Game buy Battlecry. Or watch the shows and use your imagination! You'd probably have a better time.

3 out of 5 stars Passable FPS with Robotech elements   November 30, 2005

This is a game which, if not for the Robotech name, I would not have bought. The game is a first person shooter which has nothing to distinguish it from the other games in the genre than the Robotech name/story line and the excellently rendered Invid enemies.

Those enemies are without a doubt the highpoint of the game. Every class of Invid is faithfully created, from scouts and enforcers to troopers. Also the landscapes and background were well done. The ruined cities, Invid hives and crashed ships really add to the environment. Voice acting was good, the Regiss really sounded like the original voice actress.

My complaints...

1. For some reason the game totally ignores the music from the series and chooses to use some scifi-esque music through the game. Why not use the music that fans of the show, presumably your target market, would prefer.

2. Why limit when the player can change modes. One of the true strengths of Robotech Battlecry was the ability to switch modes at the players whim.

3. Why no veritechs? I'm sure most players would have loved a mission or three which involved veritechs.

4. The Invid were too easy to kill. If i remember right a Cyclone would have a pretty tough time in a 1-1 fight with an Invid Trooper. They go down far too easily in this game.

5. Why not have the main character speak in game more often. You have the voice actor from the original series, use him.

6. I would have liked to have seen some interplay with the main characters of the show like we had in Battlecry.

7. Movement seemed clunky and jumpy. The player is often unable to turn to aim quickly enough to engage enemies.

All in all a passable game. At its current price (under $10) its probably worth it for the someone who loves the series, but it doesn't stand up on its own. Without the Robotech elements I would have given this game 2 stars. Another example of a licensed game falling short of hopes and expectations.

3 out of 5 stars Same thing over and over...   October 17, 2005

If I wasn't a Robotech fan, I would find this game rather boring. But, as a fan, it held my interest. It was much the same thing over and over again. I wish they could've varied the gameplay a little bit.
