If you like the Shrek movies, you'll probably enjoy the game September 26, 2004 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Like several other Mac/Aspyr games, this is NOT the same Shrek game you've seen on TV for the PS2, X-Box, or Gamecube. This is however, a pretty good game. Easy to play but also decently challenging in places, I'd say this game holds its own. The player-switching mechanism is great; playing as Puss-in-Boots and donkey has been a lot of fun.
I'd recommend this game for kids, but since it's keyboard-only, it's a little tough to play unless you've had a lot of practice playing games with a keyboard. You probably could program a game-pad for this game using a tool like Carvware software's "Game-pad companion", but you'd want a controller with a "hat" so you could move the camera around.
The graphics aren't as good as they could be, but are certainly nice enough. The bad-guys don't offer much in the way of a challenge, but the magic potions (power-ups) are a lot of fun to experiment with. Some of the challenges are little too tough, but most range from easy to just right.
As a Mac gamer, I'd like to see a little better set of offerings. We deserve better than ports of second-rate PC games. However, despite its shortcomings, "Shrek 2" for the Mac is enjoyable and has been reasonably priced since it's initial release. I continue to support Aspyr as the best Mac game company.
