Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Warriors brings you the drama of the cult film. When gang leader Cyrus called a summit for every gang in New York, he asked them to unite into one massive army -- under his command, they'd be strong enough to take over the city. The gang kids seemed ready to sign up, until Cyrus was shot by a rival. It's pinned on "The Warriors" -- a small-time gang from the edge of the city. Blamed for a murder they didn't commit, The Warriors have to get from the Bronx to their home turf in Coney Island, with every gang in New York chasing them. Help them fight their way through all the gangs they meet -- and get them home in one piece without getting grabbed by the cops.

4 out of 5 stars If you come out to play-ay, you'll go back in pretty soon   January 21, 2008

The Warriors game is a good movie based game, but I feel like the product shows that the developers thought that The Warriors didn't have enough content to make a good game.
There are 18 missions that take place before the movie's timeline. The movie itself: 5 levels. That is, the movie is 20% of the game missions. I do think it is nice that they gave the backstory for every Warrior, but it is a bit much. Also the backstories have almost no relation to the movie part of the game. As I was playing the earlier parts of the game I assumed that you were visiting locations that you later would have to trek through. Actually they have no relation whatsoever to the movie part.
The game is also shockingly linear. Rockstar has a pedigree for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy style sandbox games, but this game is NOT by the GTA Rockstar, this is Rockstar Toronto. They also made the PS2 Max Payne game and Manhunt 2 for Wii. (Rockstar North in Scotland makes the GTA series.)
The controls are simple: kick, punch, & jump. You can also pick up knives, bottles, or other items to use as weapons. While playing this game I was constantly reminded of brawlers like Final Fight or Double Dragon (NES). Just like those games you can play the entire game co-operatively. The minigame "Armies of the Night" that you get after beating the game is a Warriors spin on those side scrolling type of games.
The soundtrack is top notch, and many of the voices of the movie return for the game including Ajax, Swan, Cleon, Cochise, & Mercy. Some of the new replacement voices are so good that I didn't notice that it was different people until the credits.
Ultimately this is a good game, but to hear that Rockstar was involved after Grand Theft Auto San Andreas had gang fighting, will probably make you expect a different game. Unlike GTA:SA you will not have turf battles and you can't take a rival gang's territory. Also the game does not have a GTA style overworld that you can explore. Each level is an isolated piece of the city with straight-as-an-arrow linear action.
If you were expecting GTA: The Warriors, you will be disappointed. If you were expecting Double Dragon: The Warriors, then you will be quite pleased.

5 out of 5 stars Warriors PS2 game   December 23, 2007

I really enjoyed this game. I thought it went into the backrounds of all the charaters really well, how they ended up with the warriors, etc. I absolutely loved the non-stop fighting and mini games. If your into fighting games and love the warriors, I'd recommmend this.

2 out of 5 stars Very dissapointing   November 20, 2007

The worker at GameStop recommended this game over Sopranos and Transformers(I haven't played either). This game is a mix of very easy and non-engaging. The entire game you are given instruction after instruction about 5 seconds apart. It feels as though the game keeps telling you, "run forward", "follow Warchief" over and over. The game for me became boring after about 20 minutes. I was anticipating some further action to take place, but never got to it.
