Excellent Simulation December 21, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Full disclosure: I used to work at Sonalysts (10 years ago, now) and know some of the people involved in creating this sim. I also have a bias against games that "simulate" some things -- such as "Golden Tee," the golf game -- in which the motions one executes in the game are nothing like those executed in the actual activity being "simulated." And lastly, naval warfare lends itself to simulation because of the systems used. All that being said, this game gives as close to a feel of actually conducting naval operations as one can get without getting seasick. Very well done.
Wow -- not a 'point and shoot' game in ANY sense! November 20, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really liked 688I by Janes and decided on a change of pace. This has many of the 688I look and feel to some of the screens and players of that game will get into this one quickly as long as you stick with the 688I and maybe the Seawolf. You go to the Fast Frigate or the SH-60 without the manual and you'll be a blithering idiot in a few minutes. Good interface BUT the first thing you need to do after installing it is to go to the home site and download the MASSIVE patch they have. I experienced NO problems with the game before the patch because I didn't even open it but to get to the home site. I read a lot about the 'bugginess' of the application and have not experienced ANY problems or system hangups on my system (P-4 3.1GHZ Topend Video card)I ordered the manual from the vendor - nice job but I wish it was in color. I wish the online instructions were in color! THAT was a minor point but I have a color copier at my disposal and would have liked a color manual - call me 'spoiled'. Game play is NOT for the faint of heart. It is a 'complex' game - not a 'hard' game. It reminds me of learning Chess - you just can't jump in and 'do it' - there is a learning curve and with 7 platforms to control, that learning curve is not STEEP but it IS long. Technically, this game is very good albeit it simplified from the 'real' platforms, but what the hey!! This is a GAME and is not classified in any respects, although years ago, the feds would have had a fit with Sonanalysts for publishing this. Again - this is NOT a point and shoot game. This is a technological, military, multi-platformed, CHESS game and if you want to be good at it - you will have to study it and learn it. If you want 'point and shoot' - you will be VERY disappointed with this game. Me?? I am happy as a pig in ..... well you know with this game. I can spend hours on a mission and enjoy it immensely. This game is NOT for 'kids' or quick reward play.
fun? what fun?! February 11, 2007 8 out of 22 found this review helpful
I would like to let you know who ever is looking at this product of buy it, well dont, you have to take a college level course just to understand how to use this "game", is more suited toward comanders that want to horn there skills, hence simulation, it is indeed a watered down simulation, military simulations, that is the real thing are not supposed to be fun, there supposed to streach your limitations on the job that you do in the military, not to many fun times in the miliary but who knows this may be the "game" for you, I gave it way after spending to much time trying to figure out how to what ever this "game" is supposed to do. and remember the front cover picture of this game is just that, its a front cover picture not what it looks like in reality. Yea do as you wish, wast some money on this thing, for thats what your doing

Remember 688 Attack Sub? November 3, 2006 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Dangerous Waters is like getting a huge upgrade of an older game called 688 Attack Sub. But Dangerous Waters has more weapons platforms to play, more varied missions, more options, and more control. You can save mid mission. It's great on a laptop or PC. It also installs fully so you don't have to tote the CD around. The options are very friendly. You can make the game as playable as you like. Don't expect flight sim type control with the helo or orion. They control much like the ship or subs. Pick you course and altitude and away you go. There is a large selection of weapons to load each platform with depending on mission parameters. Get it. It's great stealth action and a thinking persons game.
