Great game, worth every penny. December 30, 2008 At first sight, you might think this game is a waste of money. What's the difference between this and Scene It?, you might say?
Well, first of all, this game comes with four Buzzers... so it is very interactive. There are thousands of questions and 7 or so different categories. You can also choose to get questions from all the categories, which is the most fun.
The questions are usually neither too easy nor too hard.
Buzz, the long-mouthed host is very funny. His comments are intelligent; they go with what is going on. The artificial intelligence is very good. For example, if a person consistently gets questions wrong, but then all of a sudden gets one right, Buzz will make a comment on that.
You can choose your own character, buzzer noise, clothes, and name. Some notable characters are a Mime (my personal favorite), a cheerleader, and a super hero. There are more characters to unlock too.
Buzzer noises include a cow's moo, car horn, whistle, and more. These are updated once in a while with the game's update system.
You can make your own quizzes or play, family against family (couch against couch, as the game calls it) with people around the world on the free PS Network.
This is a great game for parties.
Overall an excellent game; no issues whatsoever. I advise you to get it.
Fun but not for the entire family December 15, 2008 I had a lot of fun with this game, a lot more than I actually thought I would. I had imagined this to be a lot like Jeopardy where you side back, choose a category, and answer questions.
But there was much more. You do choose categories (where, except the first round, the one with the lowest score chooses the category) but each round of question answering is different. Like there is one where you get a bomb and you can pass it when you answer the question right. When a random amount of time goes by the bomb explodes. It is the variety of different ways to answer questions that make this really fun and it isn't difficult to figure out how to play it at all (we didn't read the directions and figured it out just fine on the fly).
There are a ton of questions and after playing it several times we have yet to hear the same question twice.
You also get to choose a character and that also made each of these fun as different characters each reacted to situations differently. Some of the reactions were quite hysterical and more entertaining than the game itself.
I only had one potential problem with this game, which is that you can't play this with just anybody. Everybody gets the same questions so if I had younger children they wouldn't have a prayer of keeping up with Mom and Dad. But my 12 year old was smart enough to get a lot of these questions right though some categories were plainly out of his league. In other words, it isn't really "fun for the whole family", but it is great fun when you play with people who are roughly as smart as you.
Other than the shortcoming of the previous paragraph, I thought this was a blast and would highly recommend it to people who like trivia games.
Good Times December 11, 2008 Over all alot of fun. As far as home play goes no one was home when first got it a set it up so I played with myself (insert joke here). Setup was extreamly easy and i was able to start playing within 10 minutes of having it home. I played the online version and that was really fun too. My only complaint is that in one of the rounds (called all that apply) the people you are playing against can see your answers and thus can copy them so there is not much chance to gain an advantage on your opposition. But that is my only gripe. Bravo to the makers of this game for including a game 4 seperate buzzers and the usb reciever for the standard price of one PS3 game (60 us dollars). Kinda makes you wonder how they can do that but that is neither here nor there. A great purchase really easy to use and I'm looking it forward to taking it home with me for christmas at the parents house between my wife her parents, grandparents, sister, my parents, sister, aunt, uncle, and 2 other guests, it should be a rousing good time. One last thing, the box says it is playable up to 8 but you need to get 4 more controllers and as of this writing I have not seen them for sale anywhere. Hope this helps
Buzz your next party! December 9, 2008 I saw Buzz! in a magazine ad and was instantaneously curious. Then, before a big party I was teetering between Buzz! and Rock Band. Hands down, I'm convinced Buzz! was the right choice.
I've been to parties where Rock Band was the group activity, and a lot people were just sort of intimidated and frustrated all at the same time. Buzz! is an entirely different story.
Everyone wanted to get their hands on the Buzz! buzzer. And it is almost as entertaining to watch others play Buzz! as it is to play yourself. So everyone at the party, whether in the game or watching, was having an absolute blast. the party was Saturday, and everyone at work is talking Buzz! first thing Monday morning.
The controller is super easy to use. Folks who never play video games got the hang of the buzzer after playing or closely watching one round. The instructions are integrated into the game play through the show's host and the action moves swiftly.
The game is also full of laughs - From the kooky characters you can create at the opening of each game, to rounds like "pass the bomb with the burning fuse" Buzz is well rounded entertainment and fun for pretty much the whole family. The only thing questionable about the game was the language of coming from the competitors at my party, who took the game very, very seriously. All in good fun, of course.
This game is a hit. If you have PS3 and you want to throw a memorable party, GET THIS GAME. Well worth the price, indeed.
Silly Family Fun... especially for younger players. December 8, 2008 So I have been playing Buzz TV with my wife for a for days now, and here are my impressions.
First, the questions are easy and do not really test your knowledge of anything other than pop culture. Don't expect anything like "Jeopardy" here. The game is silly, wacky, goofy, often obnoxious, etc... There is the possibility of future questions that can be purchased on the PSN, but so far I have only seen more pop culture categories such as "Horror Movies".
You create your character from several cartoon templates and then get to choose the outfit. This part is really well done, the characters are lively and animated, and often made us laugh. Especially the first time you use them. The second time through they are a lot less likable, and by the third time you have seen the animations, you may find them annoying. But nonetheless, my hat is off to the designers and animators here for a job well done.
The buzzers take AA batteries and work well. You plug a little dongle into the usb port of the PS3 and everything just works. No problems here at all. You buzz in with the buzzer and then select the color coded button for the correct answer.
The game supports PS3 trophies right our of the box. Nice job here.
The multiplayer is a real disappointment though. Mainly, because I wanted to play with my wife, and with others online. There is a mode called "Sofa vs. Sofa" which seemed to indicate this was possible. It's not. The should call this mode "Sofa vs. Sofa vs. Sofa vs. Sofa". Only one player can play per PS3, so it is impossible for two players at the same locations to participate.
And playing two players really limits the dynamics of the game. The different modes are obviously designed for 4 players at a time, not 2 players. Several modes require you to "choose" an opponent, etc. Two players really doesn't lend well to this type of game dynamic.
Another disappointment was it doesn't record your overall progress. After the match is over, you stats are lost and reset. You can't "save" your character for use later (like you can on the PSN version of Jeopardy).
If you have a family of 4 with younger children though, this game could be a lot of fun. The animations are lively and well done, the graphics are good, the pop culture references are fun and use a liberal use of multi-media. If your family is looking for some good laughs and excitement around the PS3, then the Buzz Quiz TV bundle is probably a good investment.
