1 out of 5 stars cumbersome drm   October 10, 2008

The DRM on this game is overly cumbersome, preventing you from being able to personally play without extra hassle a game you paid good money for....

1 out of 5 stars Crashenator   October 10, 2008

This game, even after the patches which came out right after its release, crashes at every opportunity. It is not a reliable game. It is not fun to play because when progress is achieved, it crashes (somehow it knows exactly when you plan to save and intervenes). Of course, it doesn't help that I can't play the game behind a firewall due to the connectivity required for DRM. The game has no additional value when connected to the internet, anyway.

1 out of 5 stars Just stopped working; support useless.   October 9, 2008

Tried on Mac OS X. It worked for a while, then just stopped: try to launch it and you get a zoom box, then nothing. I did discover it would still run if I logged in as root (no way do I intend to run a game as root!).

I wrote to EA support, and they suggested I "upgrade" to a machine that fits their requirements. Well, you can't get much faster than the Mac Pro I was already using. And the support tech clearly had not read my email, since if Spore runs successfully as root, and used to run fine not as root, then the machine is adequate.

I won't bore you with the list of other support problems. I can't recommend this until they get their support act together.

4 out of 5 stars One of the best games I've ever played.   October 9, 2008

The game is lots of fun with easy to moderate-complex controls. In the space stage though, it takes a while for things to load. Like, you might fly to a planet and not see the cities for another five minutes. Near the end of the game it gets very challenging. it is addicting and fun. Most people say the game is bad because the technology is supposed to be "amazing". It is. You just have to think about if your other computer game has one million different planets to explore. (This is true!)Also, do your other computer games allow you to make a creature from scratch and then allow you to use it anywhere as if it was a real thing? I DO NOT recommend this game to people that like shooting games. This is NOT a shooting game. This is for "science geeks" and "math geeks". To appreciate this game, you need to realize the time and technology that went into this. It was delayed from stores at least three times. Although there are a few glitches, it's WAY good enough for me.

3 out of 5 stars Wonderful Game, but not re-playable   October 9, 2008

The game is great- it's everything I hoped for, and the expansion of the creative abilities was a seriously added bonus. There's one problem...

after youve guided a couple of civilizations to the final space age... youre done. There's not anything new and different. Yes, you could create a new carnivorous, mean species if you always play diplomats, but that'd be really hard, as they way you play the game reflects how you live life.

So, glad i bought it, was fun to play, but i am now stuck thinking 'now what?'
