Amazon.com Review
When Sony released the PlayStation2 last year, there were only a few standout games. One of them, SSX, brought snowboarding to people who didn't even like snowboarding. Now, only a year later, PS2 fans get a new reason to stay indoors during the cold winter months. SSX Tricky is the game, and it more than lives up to the moniker.

Tricky removes two characters from the previous game and adds five new ones. It adds two new race locations to the already beefed-up World Circuit (Garibaldi and Alaska). The developers also added features to the older tracks, effectively making them new again. Tricky improves the graphics a bit and refines the controls. The game even tweaks the basic gameplay by letting you upgrade your boarder's stats in races, but also forcing you to attempt and master the showoff mode. And EA improved the challenge by evening out the learning curve. SSX tended to be a cakewalk until the later races in each set, but this time your rivals get more intense and aggressive depending upon the lap you're taking.

As in the first game, personality is everything. This is true not only in terms of voice acting, but also in how you treat opponents. The game has a few basic attitudes. If you block and attack characters too much, they'll remember and actively seek you out. If you help one or two of them, they'll become your allies, warning you of danger or fending off attackers.

In many ways, SSX Tricky is only an upgrade of the previous game. Admittedly, the additions don't look like enough to justify buying the game all over again. But the changes are deep enough to change quite a bit, and they'll delight even fans who are tired of, or who mastered, the first game. Maybe that's the most impressive ueber-trick of them all. --Bob Andrews

Pros:

  • Refined controls and new tricks
  • Excellent computer intelligence and challenge
Cons:
  • The graphics are only slightly improved

5 out of 5 stars ITS TRICKY!!!! ITS TRICKY!!!   March 31, 2007
SSX Tricky is my favorite PS2 game that I own. It is really just a BLAST to play. IT's so hard to explain how great the game is! I haven't played SSX 3 which im getting soon but i heard that it is better than tricky in some ways but worse in a lot of other ways too. Here's why I think tricky is the best!!!

PROS-

1. Gameplay- just the all-around gameplay. You can practice, go through a world circuit, or do a single event.
2. Characters- You can be ALL the characters instead of just having to choose one and going the whole way before you realize you dont like them! You can change your mind over and over again! Still, it does become a little repetitive doing it again and again with different characters.
3. Boards- as you move up in ranks you get a new board each time. This brings a cool aspect to the game I really enjoy.
4. Free-style mode- This is where you do tricks to earn points to get medals. This is my favorite type of gameplay.
5. Racing mode- This is where you race other competitors either a friend of the computer. I like playing the computer and knocking them down because it causes them to build aggression towards you and if it gets high ehough they will try to knock you off!!! HOW FUN!!!
6. Sound- The sound is good in this game! I love it!!!
7. Addicting! This game will want you to play for hours on end until your fingers hurt!!!

And more i can't think of!!!

CONS

1. Not as many levels as i would like.
2. Many improvements could be made

And that's about it!

OVERALL RECOMMENDATION- BUY THIS GAME NOW!!! It is really fun and addicting! It also makes a good present! with the ps3 being so expensive now, you canget a good game on a ps2 without all the cost!!!

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Game EVER!   March 18, 2007

I LOVE this game! It is probably the best snowboarding game ever. There are so many things to unlock, including levels, characters, boards, outfits, and more! It's so easy to learn and soo fun to play. There are so many combinations of tricks you can do too, including the completley awesome uber tricks. With uber tricks, you can breakdance, do handstands, do the worm, grind the edge of your board and more on your board. They are probably what make this game soo exciting--the tricks, that is. If I could, I would give this game 1000000 stars! Anyways, GREAT game.
Enjoy!

This game is great, a real relaxer after work. I really feel like I am on the mountain using my own snow board.

4 out of 5 stars THIS IS A GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!   August 20, 2006

This video game is very fun and good for all ages. I was out babysitting, and the 2 and 5 year olds were playing this game. So, after I put them to bed, I tried it myself. I was hooked INSTANTLY! I loved it so much that I am buying my own. I would reccomend this to anyone who wants a great, interactive game with special effects and good design and detail. The only thing is, that if u play it too much, you could temporarily be addicted to it. But, come on, that's happened to all of us video-gamers at least once, right?
