2 out of 5 stars Could have been a contender   February 18, 2006

For the prices that our offered here at Amazon for this game it is worth the buy. It was not worth the money when it first came out (39.95 I believe). If you search on the internet you can find patches for the game. But these patches do not fix all of the problems mentioned in these reviews. Why should you buy this game? Well there are not many games out there about platoon and company level battles in the middle east. I agree Talonsoft recycle the same game engine and interface from earlier games but how many wargame companies do that. Look at John Tiller and HPS. With the exception of Rising Sun Gold most of the games in this line (East Front, East Front 2, West Front) were buggy. I found most of the scenarios interesting, fun and challenging. A few were clearly unbalanced. At some websites fans have even designed their own scenarios that can be downloaded. Divided Ground was obviously a title that was churned out using a formula but for under ten dollars you will get something out of it.

This game is flawed. There are major glitches, like with a heavy truck, I can fire 1 million times in a turn if I want. Oops...

That's not all, it is glitchy overall, and there are very few scenarios when compared to East Front II, West Front, etc. Disappointing.

This is close to being as deplorable a game as I have ever seen.

A true abomination of a software.

4 out of 5 stars The only middle-east conflict strategy game   April 14, 2003

The good:
- it's the only strategy game that deals with the wars and battles of the Arab-Israeli conflict. You have the opportunity to learn some of the history of this conflict by having a little fun, while at it.
- based on a time-tested game engine from Talonsoft.
- runs well on older computers (a 400 MHz CPU is sufficient).

The bad:
- based on a dated game engine, with dated graphics.
- opponents are not well balanced.
- the manual booklet is ridicolously terse and uninformative. It basically only explains the menu and toolbar items, and with too few details.

The ugly:
- The outcome of your actions is way too random. I played the same scenario multiple times, and obtained a major victory, a major defeat and everything in between, even though I used the same tactical moves every time. This detracts a lot from the sense of achievement, in case of victory. Consider that some of the scenarios are rather lenghty, and to know that you won or lost mostly due to a random number generator, is quite dishertening.

My advice for the potential purchaser is to download the Divided Ground demo and decide for themselves.

3 out of 5 stars Is it good? Great? or Bad?   June 9, 2002

If you like strategy games this one's is not the best but to someone it might intrest them. The only reason it isn't that good is because it'll take forever for someone to figure out how to play it. I've had it for 2 months and I still haven't figured it out but if you can it's really not all that bad.
