5 out of 5 stars Blow them all away   July 7, 2008
I've heard painkiller called one of the last of the old school first person shooters and this is generally very accurate.

Like Doom and Wolfenstien 3D(that's how far back I go) there is not really much in the way of a plot and there are none of those things that I hate namely escort missions and stealth missions.

Overall-Just you, big guns and bad guys have a good time.

1 out of 5 stars Missing CD-key   June 29, 2008
So I guess this is still a problem. While I read the one review about the missing cd-key, all reviews since then didn't mention this as a problem, so I decided to buy the game figuring the issue was resolved. My game included no piece of paper with a cd key. I looked up the problem online, and found out that in order to obtain a key, I would have to email dreamcatcher my contact info, and a picture of my painkiller cd. After borrowing a camera, I managed to email the required info. I have yet to receive a response after a week. Anyway, I advise anyone looking at this game to buy a different edition, or they risk gambling with obtaining a cd-key.

4 out of 5 stars Don't think, just shoot   June 9, 2008
It's Serious Sam, in hell. In fact, it trims down the inputs a bit further by not having a crouch ability. One less function to get in the way of action!

The story is...irrelevant. Check out Yahtzee's ZeroPunctuation review. NSFW language, but that's all. Hilarious. This review is why I bought the game actually.

4 out of 5 stars Sleeper hit   February 28, 2008
Where did this come from? I saw a cheap $10 version that only has 12 levels and thought it might be worth the fun in killing the devil's minions. Truly this game has amazing graphics, killer sound, and isn't your everyday shooter. There are puzzles to solve and special ways to kill enemies. You can't just shoot them in the head a million times; you have to figure out the secret to getting rid of them. This game, while giving you a feeling of the original DOOM, is truly in a category of its own. And if you're going to buy it, get the Gold Edition because it comes with the expansion. Then, after you download the 3 updates, you'll actually have the BLACK edition. Whichever way is cheapest, if you like FPS games, get this one!

5 out of 5 stars Best FPS Since Doom III   September 1, 2007

This game absolutely rocks.

It's no crappy "Serious Sam" or "Red Faction." In fact, I dare say that parts of this are on par with Doom III (with better performance to boot). The graphics are top-notch, the engine is smooth, the weapons are creative, the monsters are incredible, and the gameplay is fast. If you want to shut your brain off and get your mouse-zen on with your pulse pounding for days on end (no lie), this is the game for you.
